What is a good delivery driver?

Good Delivery Drivers are professionals responsible for transporting goods safely and efficiently from one location to another. They ensure timely deliveries, maintain the condition of the products during transit, and often handle loading and unloading. These drivers may work for logistics companies, retailers, or wholesalers, and they must follow all relevant safety and traffic regulations. Strong communication skills, reliability, and a clean driving record are usually required for this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a good delivery driver, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Good Delivery Driver, you need a valid driver’s license, excellent driving skills, knowledge of local routes, and often a clean driving record. Familiarity with GPS navigation systems, route optimization software, and sometimes handheld delivery scanners is typically required. Strong time management, customer service abilities, and reliability help drivers excel in this role. These skills ensure timely, accurate deliveries and positive customer experiences, which are critical for operational efficiency and company reputation.

What are some common challenges good delivery drivers face and how can they overcome them?

Good Delivery Drivers often encounter challenges such as navigating heavy traffic, meeting tight delivery deadlines, and handling unexpected route changes. To overcome these obstacles, drivers benefit from strong time management skills, familiarity with navigation apps, and the ability to adapt quickly to new situations. Building good communication with dispatchers and customers also helps resolve issues efficiently and ensures timely deliveries. Additionally, maintaining a positive attitude and practicing safe driving habits are key to success in this role.

Job description

At Jimmy John's we are a restaurant that makes fast, fresh sandwiches. We are looking for a couple of good delivery drivers. We have day shifts and night shifts (both week days and weekends) available. Day shifts go from 10:45am to 2:00pm (or when they lunch rush slows down, one of the drivers sticks around until the night shift, this rotates between drivers) and night shifts go from 4:00pm to 9:30pm (we close at 9 and then there is some closing tasks to be done). My drivers usually make $30 to $80 in tips for the shift plus their hourly wage. We do a set schedule so you can plan your life. We have a flexible part time schedules that works well with a class schedule if you are a student. We will give you a sandwich on the shifts you work. We will give you a base pay $14/hr and 5% of your net sales. The 5% and your tips walk with you at the end of your shift each day. We have a smaller delivery area so you use less gas. We serve sandwiches so your car won't smell like pizza or wings. You need to have a clean driving record(no suspensions), a reliable vehicle and your own insurance. If you haven't worked delivery before we will train you.

Each Jimmy John’s franchisee is an independent employer and thus solely responsible for hiring decisions and all other employment-related matters for the franchisee’s restaurant(s). The terms “Company,” “Jimmy John’s,” “we,” “our,” or “us” refer to the specific entity (corporate or franchise) that owns and operates the Jimmy John’s restaurant to which you are applying.

Jimmy John’s and its franchisees are equal opportunity employers.

*Subject to availability and eligibility requirements.
