Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Assistant Golf Professional supports the Head Golf Professional and Director of Golf in delivering an exceptional golf experience for members and guests. This role assists with golf operations, merchandising, tournaments, and instruction while ensuring the highest levels of customer service. The position also contributes to the financial and operational success of the Golf Shop through merchandise selection, sales, and event support.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist the Head Golf Professional with golf instruction, merchandising, tournament operations, golf cart fleet management, and personnel oversight.
  • Maintain the Pro Shop inventory control system.
  • Assist members by guiding golf policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Conduct golf clinics and provide individual instruction as needed.
  • Oversee Pro Shop inventory and periodically conduct physical counts of merchandise, including scorecards, tees, pencils, ball markers, golf car tags, and tee sheets.
  • Update all charges and credits for club repair work.
  • Manage daily opening and closing procedures of golf operations.
  • Assist in the coordination of tournaments and special events, ensuring accurate posting of winners’ credits in the system with correct dates and event details.
  • Assist in scheduling lessons for all teaching professionals.
  • Perform starter or marshal duties as needed.
  • Manage the USGA handicap system for members.
  • Attend staff meetings and participate in professional development opportunities.
  • Demonstrate leadership by maintaining a positive, professional demeanor; promoting company values; and representing departmental objectives to internal and external customers.
  • Promote teamwork and cooperation among co-workers.
  • Comply with all established safety practices and attend safety-related training.
  • Leadership – Maintain a positive and professional attitude, exemplify company values, and effectively represent departmental objectives to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Teamwork – Foster a cooperative work environment by promoting teamwork, collaboration, and mutual support among colleagues.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience

  • Associate’s degree or one to two years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in golf operations, instruction, or Pro Shop management preferred.

Required Technical / Other Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of typical golf course procedures and Pro Shop operations.
  • Ensures proper execution and oversees all opening and closing procedures of the Golf Pro Shop.
  • Familiarity with tournament setup, including scorecards, golf cart tags, proximities, staging area setup, and billing.
  • Maintain playing ability and competence in all aspects of the game.

Knowledge of club fitting, golf instruction techniques, and current golf equipment technology.

Required Licenses/Certifications

  • Must be a PGA member or PGA Apprentice actively working toward PGA Professional status.
