Job description

GENERAL NATURE OF WORK: This is responsible management work in the operation, supervision and performance of the day-to-day activities, personnel and resources of the Golf Department.  An employee in this class is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operation of the Golf Department.  Duties are performed under the general direction of the Assistant Golf Course Manager.

EQUIPMENT & JOB LOCATION: This position requires general knowledge of the game of golf, shop operation and management, merchandising, staff scheduling, tournament operations, golf instruction and other fundamental golf knowledge.  The primary work site is at the Beavercreek Golf Club.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS – EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Any one position may not include all of the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all duties which may be found in all positions in this class.

  • Establishes goals for golf club in conjunction with the Assistant and Golf Course Manager.
  • Assists in managing the golf shop operation, bag drop, carts, range tournaments and outings.
  • Coordinates outings and tournaments.
  • Properly maintains golf handicaps.
  • Maintains the Golf Shop in a neat, attractive and orderly fashion.
  • Assists with inventory, orders, receives and prices inventory.
  • Sells merchandise in the Golf Shop.
  • Provides golf instruction, individual and group lesson, club fitting and re-gripping services.
  • Schedules cart assistants on a weekly basis.
  • Assists in the training of cart assistants and others to insure the highest level of customer service.  Communicates with above staff to insure pace of play.
  • Has solid and thorough understanding of all facets of the game of golf.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Golf Course Manager, including acting on his behalf when absent.
  • Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
  • Coordinates and administers Golf Genius software.  

ADDITIONAL EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

  • Reviews policies and procedures with staff personnel.
  • Greets customers who enter the Golf Shop.
  • Plays with Season Pass Holders and others to promote the facility.
  • Promote outings, tournaments and golf clinics.
  • Manage daily register reports, monitor play and manage handicap system.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Thorough knowledge of the game of golf.
  • General knowledge of computer systems and POS, tee time reservation system software.
  • Ability to provide golf instruction, clinics to a broad, diverse constituency.
  • Ability to plan, organize and conduct tournaments and outings.
  • Ability to plan and schedule work schedules of shop personnel, cart attendants and player assistants.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion in managing daily operations of the golf facility.
  • Ability to maintain an effective and courteous working relationship with the general public, customers and staff.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written instructions.
  • Ability to work effectively under the general direction of the Golf Course Manager.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and appearance.

DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A high school diploma or the equivalent; or any combination of training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities and must be actively pursuing PGA membership. Municipal government experience desirable.


NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work other than normal working hours, and to work various shifts as necessary.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain after employment CPR/First Aid Certification.
  • Must maintain a valid Ohio Driver’s License.
