Summary of Purpose
The Coach is responsible for the leadership and implementation of the sport assigned.
Typical Duties
  1. Responsible for submission of all required documentation for each athlete by specified date to meet eligibility requirements.
  2. Responsible for recruiting and fielding a full team that completes a regular season schedule.
  3. Responsible for assigning athletic scholarships to athletes and must communicate details of scholarship with Athletic Director for Letter of Intent preparation. Coach is responsible for keeping track of scholarship monies to keep within budgeted amount.
  4. Works with the Director of Athletics and Athletic Coordinator in scheduling non-conference games for the following year.
  5. Responsible for the ordering, inventory and care of equipment, clothing and uniforms used by team members.
  6. Responsible for outlining specific duties for their assistant coaches and other staff.
  7. When traveling the head coach or a member of the staff as designated by the head coach must ride on the bus or drive a college van when necessary.
  8. Assumes full responsibility for the conduct of the team, coaches, and other personnel.
  9. Coaches are to follow the established procedures for pre and post travel document submission.
  10. Attends Athletic Staff meetings and Coaches' training as required.
  11. Coaches must utilize Scoreboard by Clippd (the collegiate score reporting platform) to ensure all necessary information is provided and reported for any golf events OCC participates in.
  12. Communicates regularly with the athletic staff informing them of any concerns or issues, and roster, practice or game changes, including home and away games.
  13. Supports and promotes the program as opportunities arise including, but not limited to: college events, community service events, fundraising opportunities, or specific meetings upon request.

Knowledge and Skills Required
  • Have a working knowledge of the MCCAA and NJCAA rules
  • Must become familiar with the Oakland Community College Athletic Handbook, packets and paperwork
  • Prior playing experience in sport applicant is coaching
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft office

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Associate degree and 3 years as a head of coach of a high school and/or AAU/Club team or 1 year of college coaching experience.
