Overview

The Territory Golf & Country Club is seeking an experienced, service-oriented First Assistant Golf Professional to help lead its golf operation. Reporting to the General Manager/Head Golf Professional, this individual will receive hands-on mentorship while progressively assuming responsibility for the department’s day-to-day leadership and performance. The position is designed to prepare the selected professional to advance into the Head Golf Professional role within approximately 12 months—or sooner if performance and readiness warrant.

The ideal candidate is a visible and engaged golf professional who enjoys building relationships, playing golf with members, developing employees, teaching the game, and taking ownership of the golf operation.

Advancement Opportunity

Formal quarterly reviews with the General Manager/Head Golf Professional will evaluate leadership, member service, staff management, tournament execution, merchandising and financial performance, player development, administration, and readiness to lead the department.

Promotion may occur before 12 months if the professional demonstrates the leadership, judgment, initiative, and capacity to excel in the role. PGA Class A membership is required before promotion.

Compensation and Additional Income

In addition to a base salary of $45,000-$55,000, the position provides meaningful additional-income opportunities through instruction, player development, junior golf, and merchandise performance.

• The professional will receive 90% of individual private-lesson revenue.
• Earning at least $10,000 annually through private instruction is considered very attainable for an engaged teaching professional.
• The Territory's inaugural 2026 PGA Jr. League welcomed more than 60 children. The professional will be expected to maintain and grow this successful program while developing clinics, group instruction, and other junior-golf opportunities that can generate additional income.
• The professional will receive 25% of merchandise revenue generated over budget, provided cost of goods sold remains within 5% of budget.
• Member and guest gratuities are permitted where appropriate.

Total anticipated annual compensation is approximately $65,000-$75,000, with further upside for a professional who actively develops instruction, junior programming, and golf-shop performance.

Schedule and Work Expectations

This salaried leadership position requires approximately 55-60 hours per week during the primary golf season, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, tournaments, and major club events. Slower periods typically average 30-40 hours per week.

The professional will control their own schedule and organize it around operational needs. The department must remain properly staffed, responsibilities completed, and members and guests well served.

The professional is strongly encouraged to play golf multiple times each week, particularly with members and prospective members. Playing is considered an important part of engagement, relationship building, and evaluating the daily golf experience, provided the department remains properly covered.

Experience and Qualifications

• PGA Class A membership in good standing is strongly preferred.
• Experienced Level 3 PGA Associates nearing completion of the PGA Professional Golf Management Program may be considered.
• Progressive experience in private-club golf operations, tournament management, merchandising, instruction, and staff leadership.
• Strong understanding of the Rules of Golf, handicap administration, pace of play, and daily operations.
• Golf-shop merchandising, purchasing, inventory-control, and presentation experience.
• Ability to recruit, train, schedule, supervise, and develop employees.
• Strong communication, organizational, administrative, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build meaningful relationships with members, guests, coworkers, vendors, and event clients.
• Ability and desire to play and understand the game at a high level.
• Proficiency with point-of-sale, tee-sheet, tournament-management, and administrative systems.
• Ability to manage a seasonally demanding schedule and departmental coverage.
• Willingness to relocate to Duncan, Oklahoma.

Essential Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day golf operations under the General Manager/Head Golf Professional.
• Provide exceptional service and build relationships with members and guests.
• Manage tee sheets, daily play, pace of play, guest policies, handicaps, practice facilities, carts, range operations, and golf rules.
• Recruit, train, schedule, supervise, coach, and evaluate golf-shop and outside-service staff.
• Plan and execute member tournaments, major events, outings, leagues, junior activities, and player-development programs.
• Lead and continue growing The Territory's PGA Jr. League program.
• Oversee tournament preparation, scoring, communication, staging, awards, and follow-up.
• Manage golf-department budgets, forecasts, payroll, revenue, expenses, inventory controls, and reports.
• Oversee merchandising, purchasing, receiving, displays, special orders, inventory, pricing, and golf-shop presentation.
• Provide individual instruction, clinics, junior programming, and player-development opportunities.
• Maintain an active presence and play regularly with members and prospective members.
• Resolve member and guest concerns professionally and promptly.
• Coordinate with agronomy, food and beverage, membership, sales, accounting, facilities, and club leadership.
• Support membership recruitment, retention, and prospective-member experiences.
• Lead golf operations when the General Manager is unavailable.
• Maintain a professional, welcoming, clean, and organized golf operation.
• Represent The Territory and the PGA profession appropriately and perform other assigned duties.

Professional Development

The club will provide:

• Annual PGA membership dues.
• Support for approved PGA education and professional development.
• Quarterly performance and career-development reviews.
• Direct mentoring from the General Manager/Head Golf Professional.
• A defined opportunity to earn promotion to Head Golf Professional within approximately 12 months, or sooner when warranted.

Any PGA Associate hired must attain PGA Class A membership before promotion.
