Position Information
Position Title Pro Shop Assistant Location Moscow Division/College Auxiliary Services Department UI Golf Course FLSA Status Non-Exempt Pay Range $14.00 - $18.00 per hour, depending on experience Full Time/Part Time Part Time Work Schedule Summary
Work schedule will vary depending on work load. This position will be scheduled to work as early as 6:00am and as late as 9:30pm, as well as weekends and holidays. Multiple positions will be hired, there is opportunity to work through the summer until the course closes for the season in the fall.
Shifts for this position will run up to 10 hours, and generally no shorter than 6 hours. Shop Assistant may be asked to fill in for Outside Service as needed.
Position Responsibilities
Position Summary
Under the direction of the Head Golf Professional, the incumbent performs one or more of the following types of work:
  • Provide excellent customer service by assisting customers to check in to play golf
  • Sells shop merchandise
  • Opens and closes pro shop
  • Keeps pro shop and restrooms tidy
  • Opens and/or closes cash register daily
  • Gathers and cleans range balls
  • Cleans and gases carts
  • Other duties as assigned
Responsibilities
Job Duty Function Assists in Pro Shop by: Job Duties/Responsibilities
  • Assisting customers;
  • Selling shop merchandise;
  • Assigning golf carts and tee times, starting groups in orderly manner;
  • Opening (as early as 6:00 AM), closing (as late as 9:30 PM) and securing Pro Shop and carts;
  • Keeping shelves stocked and tidy;
  • Keeping work areas clean throughout the shop;
  • Opening and closing cash register, cashing out daily income;
  • Renting golf equipment;
  • Driving golf carts to marshal the course;
  • Park, clean, and gas incoming carts and respond to requests on the course;
  • Gathering and cleaning range balls;
  • Assisting in Inventory control:
  • Maintaining the food area by making coffee, heating sandwiches and cleaning;
  • Clean and supply restrooms.

Position Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving university vehicles
  • Experience operating a cash register, processing transactions, and handling money
  • Active or previous experience playing the game of golf
  • Due to the duties of this position, successful candidates must be at least 18 years of age
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience operating a cash register, processing transactions, and handling money
  • Experience working in a golf course pro shop or outside services department
  • Experience providing customer service and building good customer relationships
  • Member of PGA or enrolled in PGM program with successful completion of PAT
  • Strong mathematical, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well in stressful and fast-paced environments
  • Experience safely operating golf carts
  • Demonstrated reliability and punctuality in previous employment
