Job description

River Oaks Golf Course is seeking a Starter! Qualified candidates will thrive in a hospitality environment and be highly focused on providing superior service.

Summary:
The Starter/Cart Attendants are integral to the guest experience and are important staff members on the golf operations team. Starters will provide guest services by guiding players to the first tee at appropriate times and controlling a smooth pace of play on the golf course. They will also provide other guest services in the form of communication, directions, advice, and answering questions from guests on topics related to the golf course. In addition, the Starter/Cart Attendant will tend to the golf cart fleet and driving range. The candidate must have experience and be able to work weekends. 
 
Pay Range:
$15.00 - $16.00 per hour
 
Responsibilities:
  • Maintains a professional appearance.
  • Provides information regarding the golf course, play time, and other golf-related issues.
  • Provides customer service to arriving guests to help expedite the check-in process.
  • Verifies that all revenues have been properly recorded by inspecting receipts for all players before they begin play on the golf course.
  • Keeps golf shop personnel informed regarding pace of play off the first tee.
  • Supplies guests with scorecards, pencils, and other items if needed.
  • Advises guests of course conditions and expected pace of play.
  • Implements and supports all course policies and programs as communicated by management.
  • Observes pace of play on the golf course.
  • Assists slower groups/players and requests them to speed up play, where appropriate.
  • Requests slower playing groups to allow others to play through, if appropriate.
  • Reports pace of play to starter and golf shop personnel.
  • Assists the starter on the first tee if needed during heavy demand periods.
  • Reports infractions to appropriate golf shop personnel (Head Pro, 1st Assistant, etc.).
  • Ensures that all guests/players are following golf course rules and etiquette.
  • Brings carts from the cart barn in the morning and returns carts to the cart barn at the end of the day.
  • Cleans, fuels, and checks carts after each use.
  • Cleans and maintains the cart barn.
  • Ensures the carts are available for player use at all times.
  • Receives and communicates complaints to the Pro Shop.
  • Works closely with Pro Shop staff to prepare and conduct golf tournaments.
  • Implements and supports all course policies and programs as communicated by management.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or manager.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Skill:
  • Must have a valid driver’s license (if driving golf cars or driving range equipment).
  • Must have a strong work ethic.
  • Must have a friendly personality and enjoy working with the public.
  • Organized and able to work well in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have strong customer/guest orientation.
  • Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be dependable.
  • Ability to learn and enforce course policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.
  • Knowledge of the game of golf preferred.
