A candidate with the appropriate experience and education will lead a group of golf course maintenancepersonnel to perform all tasks necessary to maintain and improve a very good golf course. This positionrequires a motivated individual that will employ a "hands-on" leadership style, and someone that enjoysperforming all the tasks required to present our guests with a great golfing experience.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
  • Staff training and supervision.
  • Plant regulatory product applications.
  • Equipment operation.
  • Irrigation application, repair, and maintenance.
  • Golf course set-up activities.
  • Record keeping.
Some of the skills we are looking for are:
  • Experience operating all equipment and performing all tasks associated with the maintenance of a golfcourse.
  • Creating and managing a budget and managing an agronomic plan.
  • Good communications skills.
  • Ability to obtain and retain a Kentucky Pesticide License.
  • Golf course construction/renovation experience a plus.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Time management.
  • Leadership, teamwork, and decision-making skills.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION:Graduate of a college or university with an associate degree in plant science, turf management or a related field.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:One year experience as a Golf Course Assistant Superintendent.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:NONE
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:Three years as a golf course superintendent or golf course assistant superintendent in addition to a Certificate of Turfgrass Management from an accredited university can substitute for the required education.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.):Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification. Must obtain Kentucky Pesticide Applicator License within six months of employment. The N-18 Pesticide Applicators License required by this position can be obtained by passing the test administered by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials.
Working Conditions
Work is typically performed outside in a variety of climatic conditions. Work involves use of potentially toxic materials such as insecticides, fungicides, and fertilizers.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 9 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
