Location: Lyon Oaks Golf Course in Wixom, MI

Oakland County Parks is looking for friendly and dependable Golf Course Pro Shop Workers to join the team at Lyon Oaks Golf Course in Wixom. In this customer-focused role, you'll help create a great experience for golfers from the moment they arrive-checking in guests, scheduling tee times, assisting with merchandise and equipment rentals, and supporting daily golf course operations.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys interacting with people, working as part of a team, and spending their workday in a golf and recreation environment.
What you'll do:
Welcome golfers and provide friendly, helpful customer service in the Pro Shop
Schedule tee times and process purchases, rentals, and other transactions using a point-of-sale system
Assist with merchandise sales, inventory, golf cart rentals, and equipment
Clean, stage, and organize golf carts for customer use
Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming Pro Shop
Serve as a starter/ranger when assigned, helping manage the pace of play and promoting course rules and etiquette
Assist golfers with questions or concerns while they're on the course
Depending on assignment, assist with food and beverage service in the grill room, concession area, or beverage cart*

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must have passed their 18th birthday NOTE: This role is assigned to Golf Course Pro Shop, Grill rooms or Beverage Cart, so Employee must have passed their 18th birthday, per the State of Michigan, due to the sale of alcoholic beverages.
  • Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical, established for this classification.

ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Reasonable knowledge of customer service interactions and ability to communicate with others.
  • Some knowledge of the use of elementary hand and power tools.
  • Reasonable knowledge of and ability to practice standard safety techniques.
  • Reasonable ability to perform routine, repetitive, and/or manual tasks.
  • Reasonable ability to maintain personal cleanliness and a presentable public appearance.
  • Reasonable ability to follow standardized oral and written instructions.
  • Reasonable ability to work and cooperate in a team effort, when necessary, to successfully complete an assignment.

WHEN ASSIGNED TO A GOLF COURSE
  • Pro shop duties include waiting on customers, the sale, inventory, and notification for purchases of articles, and helping to maintain the pro shop in a neat and orderly manner.
  • Processes transactions in person and over the phone on a point-of-sale computer system including renting golf carts, lockers and other equipment, scheduling tee times in person and on the phone, and announcing tee time launches.
  • Provides customer service to golf course guests such as assisting with the sale of pro-shop merchandise.
  • Cleans, stages golf carts for customer use and returns them to the cart barn after use.
  • May assist guests with food and beverage services at the grill room, concession, and beverage cart locations, taking food and beverage orders, preparing, and serving orders in a courteous manner and recording the transaction into the parks software to provide an accurate sales receipt.
  • May assist on the golf course as a starter/ranger to manage the flow of traffic and ensure that players follow the rules and etiquette of the course.
  • May also provide customer service to players with any issues they may have while on the course
  • MUST BE 18 to work in a Grill Room and serve alcoholic beverages.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Answers public inquiries regarding other County parks.
  • Performs the duties of part-time seasonal employees in various classes when necessary.

  • Ability to operate equipment as assigned to complete work duties including but not limited to computers, phones, and hand tools or custodial equipment

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Work is performed in an outdoor environment with exposure to heat, cold and other weather elements.
