POSITION SUMMARY: The Golf Shop Retail & Merchandising Manager is responsible for leading the daily retail operations of the Club's golf shop, ensuring an exceptional shopping experience for members and guests while driving sales, maintaining visual standards, and overseeing inventory execution. This role is heavily retail-focused and requires a strong background in retail management, merchandising, customer service, and team leadership. Working under the guidance of the Golf Buyer/Visual Merchandiser and Director of Golf, the Golf Shop Retail & Merchandising Manager is responsible for executing merchandising initiatives, maintaining inventory accuracy, supervising golf shop retail staff, and ensuring the golf shop reflects the high standards of a premier private country club. While knowledge of golf and private club operations is beneficial, success in this position is primarily driven by strong retail leadership experience and a passion for delivering exceptional member service.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Retail Management & Merchandising

  • Oversee the day-to-day retail operations of the golf shop, ensuring an exceptional member and guest experience.
  • Execute merchandising plans developed in collaboration with the Golf Buyer/Visual Merchandiser and Director of Golf.
  • Receive, tag, steam, price, and prepare merchandise for the sales floor in conjunction with Golf Merchandise Receiver.
  • Maintain visually appealing, organized, and seasonally relevant product displays.
  • Ensure merchandise presentations align with established brand standards, visual merchandising strategies, and club expectations.
  • Coordinate seasonal floor resets, trunk shows, promotional displays, and retail events.
  • Monitor sales activity and product performance, providing feedback and recommendations to leadership.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting retail environment at all times.

 

Inventory Control & Shop Operations

  • Manage inventory organization, replenishment, stock rotation, and back-stock areas.
  • Conduct monthly inventory counts and support reconciliation efforts.
  • Track merchandise movement, special orders, transfers, and vendor returns.
  • Assist with inventory reporting and maintaining accurate stock levels.
  • Execute purchasing and merchandising decisions as directed by the Buyer/Visual Merchandiser and Director of Golf.
  • Support daily point-of-sale operations and ensure accurate transaction processing.

 

Member Service & Club Experience

  • Deliver exceptional customer service to members and guests through personalized assistance and product knowledge.
  • Respond to merchandise inquiries, special orders, and retail-related requests.
  • Support tournament gifting programs, member promotions, and retail components of club events.
  • Collaborate with golf operations staff to ensure seamless daily service and communication.
  • Develop strong relationships with members while maintaining a professional and welcoming presence.

 

Leadership & Team Development

  • Recruit, train, mentor, and support golf shop associates.
  • Ensure staff are knowledgeable about merchandise, service expectations, and operational procedures.
  • Manage employee scheduling and staffing coverage for tournaments, special events, weekends, and peak business periods.
  • Foster a positive, team-oriented, service-driven culture.
  • Assist leadership in establishing and achieving retail sales goals and operational objectives.

 

Education & Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of retail management experience, preferably in luxury retail, hospitality, resort, golf, or private club environments.
  • Proven experience leading retail teams, managing inventory, and executing merchandising strategies.
  • Strong understanding of visual merchandising, retail sales, and customer service best practices.
  • Experience in a private country club environment preferred.
  • Golf industry experience preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of tournament operations is a plus.
  • Proficiency with point-of-sale systems, inventory management software, Microsoft Office, and related business applications.
  • Strong organizational, administrative, and operational management skills.
