Goldman Sachs Private Bank provides competitive borrowing and cash management solutions from Goldman Sachs Bank USA that are strategically integrated with our client's wealth management goals.  Our experienced team partners with PWAs to advise clients on new loans, refinancing and restructuring of existing loans along with overall liability management.  Our lenders and mortgage specialists provide a wide range of creative borrowing solutions against asset classes ranging from marketable securities and alternative investments, residential and commercial real estate to more tailored solutions against private assets such as aviation, fine art or vineyards.  All team members are employees of Goldman Sachs Bank, USA. 

Your Impact

The Underwriting Associate plays a critical role in supporting the Private Bank's credit delivery model. Working closely with Senior Underwriters, Originators, Credit Executives, and Risk partners, the Associate is responsible for preparing underwriting analyses, drafting credit memos, legal document negotiation and coordinating transaction execution across a wide spectrum of lending solutions for ultrahighnetworth individuals, families, and family offices.

This role blends financial analysis, credit judgment development, and crossfunctional collaboration, providing a pathway to becoming a senior underwriter.

Key Responsibilities

Credit Analysis & Underwriting Support

  • Prepare detailed financial, cash flow, collateral, and global exposure analysis to support loan structuring.
  • Draft credit memos, including borrower profiles, financial summaries, collateral reviews, and risk considerations; present to capital committee in support of deals
  • Conduct due diligence on clients, financial statements, asset holdings, trust structures, illiquid investments, and marketable securities portfolios.
  • Support ongoing portfolio monitoring, including covenant tracking, liquidity reviews, and risk rating updates.

Transaction Execution

  • Partner with Underwriters, Bankers, and Legal to collect documentation, resolve open items, and facilitate timely credit approval.
  • Assist in the coordination of closing processes, internal approvals, and compliance checks.
  • Proactively track workflow status and ensure accurate data entry into credit systems.

Risk & Governance

  • Ensure adherence to internal credit policies, regulatory requirements, and audit standards.
  • Identify data gaps or potential risk issues and escalate appropriately.
  • Support periodic portfolio reviews and risk deep dives.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work with crossfunctional partners-including Capital Advisors, Investors, Trust & Estates, and Risk-to ensure cohesive credit execution.
  • Prepare presentation materials, borrower analyses, and adhoc reports for senior stakeholders.

Qualifications

Required

  • 3-6 years of experience in credit analysis, corporate banking, underwriting, private banking, or related financial services.
  • Strong financial statement, cash flow, and collateral analysis skills.
  • Excellent written communication and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle multiple transactions in a fastpaced, highvolume environment.

Preferred

  • Experience supporting UHNW or institutionallevel borrowers.
  • Familiarity with securitiesbased lending, corporate lending, real estate lending, or other assetbased structures.
  • Completion of a credit training program, CFA Level I, or similar.
