Job description

Nevada Gold Mines is seeking a Senior Environmental Engineer specializing in Water and Wildlife/Biodiversity for our Turquoise Ridge operation. The ideal candidate will have comprehensive expertise and background in water management, compliance monitoring systems, and permitting, as well as wildlife management and biodiversity oversight. This will ensure that all legal and regulatory requirements related to water management programs and permits for the mine are met. Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise existing compliance systems for all water-related programs and permits, encompassing water pollution control permits, drinking water permits, stormwater permits, industrial artificial pond permits, and dewatering initiatives.
  • Oversee operational inspections to verify permit adherence, which includes accompanying regulatory inspectors during periodic site inspections.
  • Guide and manage hydrologic investigations and their reporting.
  • Lead significant and/or complex permitting endeavors tied to the site's water management needs, including reviewing application and modification design packages.
  • Coordinate permitting activities related to the site's water management, including the examination of application and modification blueprints.
  • Aid operational division staff in realizing their goals.
  • Assist in training Nevada Gold Mine employees, contractors, and others.
  • Mentor and develop Environmental Engineers, Specialists, and Technicians as needed, supervising the upkeep, evaluation, and reporting of collected data to Barrick management and regulatory agencies. Support report drafting and submission.
  • Oversee wildlife management initiatives, including the development of the Eagle Action Plan and liaising with government bodies.
  • Aid in creating biodiversity management strategies with the objective of achieving a net neutral impact in the areas where we operate.
  • Align operational practices with NGM Health, Safety, and Environmental ISO 14001 and 45001 standards. Demonstrate leadership and advocate for NGM Safety and Environmental programs and initiatives.
  • Be responsible for periodic, after-hours on-call support for environmental incidents when required.
  • This role necessitates the capability to regularly traverse uneven, sloping, rocky, wet, or icy terrain and to safely lift 40 pounds or more consistently.
  • Carry out other assigned tasks.
  • Provide supervision and assistance in well drilling and design activities.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders across Turquoise Ridge, NGM, and Barrick, each possessing distinct levels of management and expertise.
  • Coordinate contractor projects, ensuring adherence to budgets while managing contractor work.
  • Work with company subject-matter experts on intricate compliance or water-related matters.
  • Review and interpret water level data and water quality samples from monitoring wells.
  • Assess water quality parameters and identify geochemical trends.

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Hydrology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of direct experience in environmental compliance, with at least three (3) years in an industrial environment that includes interactions with regulatory agencies, is required.
  • Three (3) years of supervisory experience is required.
  • Strong verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects at once is required.
  • Proficiency with ArcGIS Pro is preferred.
  • Extensive experience with Excel is required.
  • Familiarity with compliance systems and ISO 14001 is required.
  • Knowledge of the NEPA process is preferred.
