Associate Veterinarian or Chief of Staff

Spring Harbor Animal Hospital in beautiful Madison, Wisconsin, is seeking an experienced veterinarian to join our team as either an Associate Veterinarian or Chief of Staff. Whether you’re looking to continue practicing high-quality medicine as an associate, step into leadership immediately, or grow into a leadership role over time, we offer the flexibility and support to help you achieve your career goals.

For doctors seeking additional variety, there is also an optional opportunity to split time between Spring Harbor Animal Hospital and nearby Middleton Veterinary Hospital. Prefer to practice exclusively at one location? That’s an option too.

For decades, Spring Harbor Animal Hospital has proudly served the Madison community as a stand‑alone veterinary practice. Today, we’re known for our collaborative culture, experienced support team, and commitment to both exceptional patient care and work‑life balance.

Why You’ll Love Working Here
  • Join a close‑knit, collaborative team with an average staff tenure of 10 years
  • Work alongside experienced technicians and support staff who truly value teamwork and helping one another
  • Be part of a culture that lives by the motto: "If everybody does a little, nobody has to do a lot"
  • Practice high‑quality medicine in a supportive environment where everyone’s voice is valued
  • Flexible scheduling options available for both full‑time and part‑time veterinarians
  • Part‑time opportunities available for doctors interested in working 2‑3 days per week (typically Wednesday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m.)
  • Dedicated surgical time available for veterinarians interested in surgery
  • Spend time with teammates outside of work through fun social events, including bowling, beach days, laser tag, holiday celebrations, coffee runs to Moka next door, and team crafts and puzzles
  • Join a team that prioritizes both exceptional patient care and enjoying the workday together

We’re excited to speak with veterinarians interested in:

  • Joining as an Associate Veterinarian
  • Stepping directly into a Chief of Staff role
  • Starting as an Associate and growing into leadership

Doctors interested in leadership will have access to our leadership training program and will partner closely with our highly experienced Hospital Manager, a CVT with more than 12 years of leadership experience.

Practice Highlights
  • Flexible full‑time or part‑time opportunities
  • Certified Feline Friendly Practice (Silver Status) with plans to pursue Gold status
  • Experienced and highly skilled technician team, including multiple CVTs

  • Appointment lengths designed to support quality medicine:
    • Wellness appointments: 30 minutes
    • Sick appointments: 40 minutes
    • Puppy appointments: 40 minutes
    • Rechecks: 20‑30 minutes
Facility & Equipment

Our hospital includes four exam rooms, a dedicated treatment area, surgical suite, dental/prep room, and separate dog, cat, and recovery wards. We continue to invest in our hospital, with extensive remodeling completed in 2021 and additional improvements planned.

Equipment includes:

  • Digital radiography
  • Hand‑held ultrasound
  • Surgical laser
  • Therapeutic laser

We are currently a 60% canine and 40% feline practice and pride ourselves on providing individualized, compassionate care to every patient.

Fun fact: Our hospital features architectural inspiration influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright, reflecting the character and history that make Madison such a special place to call home!

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking a veterinarian who values collaboration, client relationships, high‑quality medicine, and a compassionate, low‑stress approach to patient care. Interest in surgery and dentistry is preferred, but not required.

Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who wants to become part of a supportive, close‑knit team that genuinely enjoys working together while making a difference in the lives of pets and their families.

Whether you’re exploring the nation’s largest producer‑only farmers market, enjoying the city’s many unique neighborhoods and hobby communities, or admiring the area’s rich architectural heritage inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright, Madison offers something for everyone. It’s a walkable and bike‑friendly city where it’s easy to build both a fulfilling career and an enjoyable life outside of work.
