What is a Go programmer?

A Go Programmer is a software developer who specializes in writing applications using the Go (Golang) programming language. They design, develop, test, and maintain scalable and high-performance software, often for backend systems, cloud services, and microservices architectures. Go Programmers work with tools like Docker, Kubernetes, and databases to build efficient and concurrent applications. They collaborate with teams to solve technical challenges and optimize system performance.

What are some common challenges Go programmers face when working on large-scale backend systems?

Go Programmers working on large-scale backend systems often encounter challenges such as managing concurrency efficiently, optimizing system performance, and ensuring code maintainability in growing codebases. Balancing simplicity and scalability, especially when handling microservices architectures or high-traffic environments, can require creative problem-solving and close collaboration with DevOps and front-end engineers. Additionally, integrating Go services with legacy systems or third-party APIs sometimes presents unique obstacles. By leveraging Go’s strengths and working closely with team members, these challenges can be successfully addressed and lead to robust, high-performance applications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Go programmer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Go Programmer, you need strong programming skills in Go (Golang), a solid understanding of concurrent programming, and experience with software development frameworks and version control. Familiarity with tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, RESTful APIs, and cloud platforms like AWS or GCP is often expected, and holding certifications in cloud or backend development can be a plus. Excellent problem-solving skills, teamwork, and effective communication are important soft skills for this role. These abilities ensure that you can deliver reliable, scalable solutions and work efficiently within collaborative engineering environments.

Are Go programmers in high demand?

Go programmers are in high demand due to the language's efficiency, scalability, and use in cloud computing, microservices, and backend development. Companies seek skilled Go developers for performance-critical applications, and the demand is expected to grow as these technologies expand.

How much do Go programmers make?

Go programmers typically earn between $80,000 and $150,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and industry. Skilled developers with expertise in concurrent programming and cloud infrastructure tend to command higher salaries.

Job description

Job Title: Product Manager, Mobile App
Job Type: Full-time, in person Monday - Friday
Location: Dunwoody, ATL
Job Summary:
Rooms To Go is seeking a Product Manager, Mobile App to lead the evolution of our mobile app as the primary digital customer experience, with RoomsToGo.com serving as a closely aligned secondary channel. This is a very collaborative role owns the end-to-end product strategy for the mobile app, driving customer value through thoughtful prioritization, rapid experimentation, and an AI-first mindset.
You will translate business goals and customer needs into clear product direction, partner deeply with engineering and cross-functional teams, and deliver impactful mobile experiences that improve discovery, conversion, and long-term customer engagement. This role requires strong mobile product experience, technical curiosity, hands-on prototyping skills, and comfort operating in a fast-paced, evolving retail environment.
Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Drive the evolution of the RoomsTo Go mobile app as the primary customer surface, with RoomsToGo.com as a closely aligned secondary channel
  • Champion an AI-first approach to product development - actively identify opportunities to embed AI and ML capabilities (personalization, conversational commerce, visual search, smart recommendations, generative content, assisted checkout, etc.) into the shopping journey
  • Translate business goals and customer needs into a clear, prioritized product strategy and roadmap, with the app experience leading the way
  • Partner closely with engineering to assess technical feasibility early and often - understand architectural trade-offs, API constraints, and delivery risks well enough to make informed scope and sequencing decisions
  • Prototype rapidly to pressure-test ideas before committing engineering investment - use tools like Figma, Framer, v0, Claude Artifacts, and AI-assisted coding environments to turn concepts into tangible, testable experiences
  • Use data rigorously to identify opportunities, define KPIs, measure outcomes, and iterate - comfort with analytics platforms, SQL, and experimentation frameworks is expected, not aspirational
  • Manage stakeholder expectations proactively - communicate progress, trade-offs, risks, and timelines clearly and honestly to executives, directors, and cross-functional partners; surface issues early rather than late
  • Collaborate with merchandising, creative, analytics, UX, and engineering teams to remove impediments and keep delivery moving
  • Empathize with and advocate for end users across discovery, delivery, and post-launch phases
  • Stay curious and open-minded about tooling - continuously evaluate and adopt new tools, AI capabilities, and workflows that accelerate discovery, delivery, and team velocity; bring the team along rather than going it alone
  • Develop and maintain core PM artifacts (product vision, goals and success metrics, roadmap, PRDs)
  • Work with engineering to define user stories, negotiate MVP scope with stakeholders, and deliver incrementally toward successful launches

Required Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
  • 5-7 years of product management experience
  • 2+ years shipping and evolving native mobile apps (iOS and/or Android) - required
  • Demonstrated AI-first mindset - evidence of shipping AI/ML-powered features and/or actively using modern AI tools in your own PM workflow (research, analysis, prototyping, writing, data exploration)
  • Strong technical literacy - able to read API documentation, reason about system architecture at a high level, and hold substantive conversations with engineers about feasibility and trade-offs
  • Hands-on prototyping skills - fluent with tools like Figma, Framer, v0, Claude Artifacts, or equivalent; comfortable going beyond static wireframes to communicate intent
  • Strong analytical skills - fluency with a modern analytics stack (GA4, Amplitude, Mixpanel, or similar), comfort writing SQL, and experience designing and interpreting A/B tests
  • Proven ability to manage stakeholder expectataions across executives, peers, and delivery teams - especially when priorities shift or trade-offs are hard
  • Openness to new tools and ways of working - a track record of adopting emerging technologies to improve personal and team productivity, and helping others do the same
  • Experience with agile methodologies and modern software development practices
  • Experience creating and prioritizing user stories
  • Experience conducting competitive research and analysis
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, fluid environment
  • Retail or e-commerce experience a plus
