Job Purpose
The engineering director provides technical leadership, project oversight, and operational support for forensic engineering projects within FINES. This role delivers full-cycle support from first assignment through investigation, analysis, reporting, repair recommendations, client communication, and project closeout, giving clients a clear path forward on complex technical matters. The position is responsible for leading motivated, organized, and efficient execution of complex investigations; producing high-quality, defensible work product; and strengthening client confidence in m2e as a trusted expert resource. This individual is expected to model m2e's core values by doing what's right, working together, growing together, owning it, and doing their best in every client and team interaction. At the Director level, the role expands to include departmental oversight, financial performance, talent development, and strategic growth, serving as a long-term anchor for the expert services portion of FINES.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead and perform complex forensic engineering investigations involving structural distress, building envelope failures, construction defects, water intrusion, corrosion, code-related issues, and related property damage claims.
  • Provide full-cycle support from assignment intake through deficiency identification, field investigation, technical analysis, report preparation, repair recommendations, client presentations, and project closeout so clients receive a clear path forward.
  • Apply sound engineering judgment consistent with applicable codes, standards, accepted engineering practices, and m2e quality expectations to determine causation and evaluate the extent of damage.
  • Plan and oversee site investigations, field observations, destructive testing, data collection, and documentation needed to support clear, defensible technical conclusions.
  • Prepare, review, and finalize accurate, organized, and persuasive engineering reports, expert opinions, scopes of repair, and other client deliverables.
  • Serve as Engineer of Record when applicable, particularly for repair, restoration, and remediation design.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously with motivated, organized, and efficient execution, ensuring assignments are delivered on time, within budget, and in alignment with company standards.
  • Define project scope, prepare proposals, manage budgets and schedules, and communicate proactively so clients and internal teams remain aligned throughout each engagement.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to attorneys, insurance carriers, property managers, owners, developers, and other stakeholders by communicating findings clearly, objectively, and professionally.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations, expert findings, and practical recommendations that help clients make informed decisions and move matters forward with confidence.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and support to Project Engineers, Consultants, and Technicians, and assist with training, onboarding, and development of junior staff.

  • Perform QA/QC reviews of deliverables to ensure consistency, efficiency, accuracy, and defensibility across projects and team members.
  • Support development and refinement of standard operating procedures, best practices, and process improvements that enhance quality, organization, and operational efficiency.
  • Escalate project risks, conflicts, resource issues, or operational concerns in a timely manner and help resolve them with professionalism and accountability.
  • Support departmental performance tracking, utilization, staffing discussions, workload planning, forecasting, and growth initiatives.
  • At the Director level, contribute to hiring, team development, succession planning, and long-range strategy, while serving as a long-term anchor for the expert services portion of FINES.

Requirements
Professional Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, Architectural, or related Engineering discipline required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Active Florida Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required; ability to obtain additional state licensure is preferred.
  • Minimum 10+ years of progressive engineering experience, including meaningful experience in forensic investigations, failure analysis, building envelope assessments, construction defects, repair/restoration design, or related consulting services.
  • Demonstrated success managing complex technical projects, client relationships, budgets, and deliverables in a fast-paced consulting environment.
  • Experience supporting team leadership, project oversight, departmental operations, and staff development.
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, construction methods, and accepted engineering practices.
  • Experience working with attorneys, insurance carriers, property managers, owners, developers, contractors, and other stakeholders is strongly preferred.
  • Testimony, expert witness, or litigation support experience is preferred.
  • Contractor license (GC or trade-specific) preferred.
  • Additional certifications such as OSHA 10, swing stage, or other relevant field/safety credentials are a plus.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License and ability to travel to job sites as needed.

Minimum Experience
10+ years of progressive engineering experience, including design, forensic consulting, project leadership, and client-facing technical responsibilities.
Demonstrated experience supporting team leadership, operational performance, and execution of complex assignments in a deadline-driven environment.
Skills and Abilities
  • English proficiency: fluent in speaking, reading, understanding, interpreting content, and writing professional technical communications.
  • Exceptional technical judgment and analytical ability, including the ability to investigate complex failures, determine causation, and develop clear, practical recommendations.
  • Strong knowledge of construction inspection principles, architecture and building systems design, project plans and specifications, and the evaluation of change orders.
  • Ability to provide full-cycle support on assignments while keeping work product organized, efficient, and aligned with deadlines, budgets, and client expectations.
  • Strong project management skills, including preparation and administration of assigned projects and corresponding budgets, with demonstrated fiscal responsibility.
  • Ability to allocate limited resources in a cost-effective manner and continuously look for more efficient ways to deliver quality results.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and client service skills, including the ability to explain technical issues clearly and give clients a clear path forward.

Physical Demands*
Necessary to perform the assigned duties safely and effectively:
  • Ability to sit with back at a 90-degree angle for up to 8 hours per day.

  • Must be able to access and navigate job sites and construction areas (uneven terrain, exposure to outdoor weather elements)
  • Bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, laying, crawling, and twisting required up to 30% of the time in this role.
  • Must be able to ride in a hoist and/or swing stage.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to use right and left foot for repetitive movements as in operating controls or levers.
  • Full dexterity of wrists and fingers required with repetitive motions.
  • Must be able to see near, in the distance, color, depth, and range.
