What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Go Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Go Developer, you need a solid understanding of the Go programming language, concurrent programming principles, and software engineering fundamentals, often backed by a degree in computer science or related experience. Familiarity with tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, version control systems like Git, and cloud platforms is typically required, along with experience in RESTful API development. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills set outstanding Go developers apart. These capabilities are vital to building robust, scalable, and maintainable software solutions that meet business and user needs.

What is a Go Developer?

A Go Developer is a software engineer who specializes in using the Go programming language (also known as Golang) to build applications, systems, and services. Go Developers are often responsible for creating scalable and efficient back-end solutions, working with APIs, and optimizing performance. They may also collaborate with front-end developers, DevOps teams, and other stakeholders to deliver robust software products. Go is particularly popular for cloud services, networking tools, and distributed systems due to its simplicity and concurrency support.

What are some common challenges Go Developers face when working on large-scale projects?

Go Developers working on large-scale projects often encounter challenges related to managing dependencies, ensuring code maintainability, and optimizing performance. As projects grow, organizing packages and maintaining clear code structure become crucial for facilitating collaboration and minimizing technical debt. Additionally, Go's concurrency model, while powerful, requires careful design to avoid race conditions and ensure efficient resource utilization. Regular code reviews, automated testing, and clear documentation are essential practices to overcome these challenges and contribute effectively to large Go teams.

GO Tutor Corps

Job description

About GO and our Residency

The mission of the GO Tutor Corps is to provide students with access to a quality education through high-dosage tutoring and educator development. We recruit, train, and support a corps of tutors and aspiring teachers who are placed in partner schools where they provide intensive academic support, mentorship, and instruction to students. We refer to these aspiring teachers as "Teacher Residents" to reflect the many roles they play in supporting student growth and school communities. In the 2025–2026 school year, GO Teacher Residents served in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, and the District of Columbia.

The GO Teacher Residency program provides a pathway for aspiring educators to enter the teaching profession through a supported apprenticeship model. Residents are placed in partner schools where they engage in student teaching through our gradual release framework while earning their Master's degree and certification through one of our higher education partners. Throughout the program, residents receive ongoing coaching, professional development, and mentorship from the GO Tutor Corps. At several of our longstanding partner schools, nearly half of current teachers began their careers through GO programming.

Teacher Residency Manager Role

We are seeking a NYC-based educator with 5+ years of teaching experience who is passionate about developing and supporting aspiring teachers entering the profession. The Teacher Residency Manager will oversee and support a cohort of teacher residents throughout their residency experience.

Reporting to and working closely with the Director of Teacher Residency (Shereen Johnson), the Teacher Residency Manager will support the implementation, coordination, and continued growth of the residency program across a portfolio of schools. This individual will work closely with residents, mentor teachers, school leaders, and the GO Tutor Corps team to ensure residents receive strong coaching, development, and programmatic support throughout their residency experience.

We are looking for someone who can facilitate high-quality adult learning experiences, build and maintain strong partnerships with school leaders and mentor teachers, manage the operational details of a complex multi-site program, and collaborate with our recruiters to grow and strengthen the residency pipeline. The ideal candidate is relationship-driven, highly organized, and committed to developing equitable, student-centered educators.

Key Responsibilities

Advisor and Coach for Residents (60% of Role)

    • Conduct monthly in-person observations for a cohort of Teacher Residents, providing actionable feedback on instructional practice and ensuring the gradual release model is implemented with fidelity
    • Collaborate with the Director of Teacher Residency to facilitate high-quality, network-wide professional development for Teacher Residents during summer pre-service training and throughout the school year
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with school leaders and instructional staff at partner sites hosting Teacher Residents
    • Partner with the Director of Teacher Residency and school leaders to identify and support strong Mentor Teacher matches for each resident, and orient mentors to the residency's gradual release framework
    • Co-facilitate monthly partnership meetings alongside the Director of Teacher Residency and school leaders to review resident progress, identify areas of support, and align on upcoming hiring and placement priorities
    • Support Teacher Residents in navigating challenges related to certification, graduate school requirements, instructional practice, and relationships within their school communities
    • Closely monitor resident progress toward certification and licensure milestones, ensuring residents complete required coursework, assessments, and program expectations in a timely manner

Recruitment and Expansion of Residency Program (20% of role): Help Candidates become Residents!

    • Collaborate with GO's Director of Teacher Residency and Director of Recruitment to build a robust pipeline of candidates interested in the Teacher Residency program
    • Interview Residency candidates and review their transcripts to ensure eligibility for state certification
    • Share Residency information with the leaders of schools that have Tutors but do not currently have Teacher Residents, with the hope of growing our program in those buildings

Team Member (20% of role): We share the work!

    • Support and help facilitate programming involving Teacher Residents, tutors, mentor teachers, and school leaders across the network
    • Participate actively in weekly team meetings, monthly in-person staff meetings, retreats, and other organizational check-ins as needed
    • Contribute to a collaborative team culture by supporting organization-wide initiatives, events, and projects as needed
    • Assist with planning and execution of residency retreats, professional development sessions, and community-building experiences for residents
    • Maintain clear and organized documentation, communication, and tracking systems related to residency programming and support
    • Approach the work with flexibility, initiative, and a solutions-oriented mindset in a fast-paced and evolving environment

Must Have:

  • Minimum of master's degree and 5+ years of relevant professional experience in the field of education
  • Experience working with Title I schools
    • Previous experience as a classroom teacher, grade level chair and/or mentor for new teachers
    • Extensive facilitation experience and understanding of adult learning

    • Exceptional project management skills with an ability to invest others in what you're building
  • Awareness of and comfort with issues of diversity, specifically around race, class, sexuality and gender; ability to engage in and facilitate discussion about diversity, equity, and inclusion
    • Passion for innovative teacher preparation programs
    • Self confidence, flexibility, and responsiveness to feedback
  • Superb organizational skills and communication skills, both electronically and in-person
  • Ability to balance working remotely with frequent travel (see Location section below)

Nice to Have:
