Job Summary
Pilot Space Assistants maintain and help visitors in proper equipment usage in Donald's Garage (maker space) in the Shiley School of Engineering. Hours worked will be dependent on availability and not to exceed 4 hours per day or 20 hours per week (average 5 hours per week).

3D Printing: Bamboo, Cura, GrabCAD
Glowforge (laser cutting)
Hand tools: electric drill, screwdrivers/wrenches/etc.
Other skills: sewing, soldering, printing (stickers, posters, tabloids, etc.)
Core Duties
  • Staff the maker space for Open Hours: must be willing to instruct and problem solve while assisting UP clients (students/staff/faculty) in the use of the equipment in the Pilot Space
  • Collaborate with other Assistants to set hours, establish and maintain inventory of equipment and materials, note repair needs, submit purchase requests for materials, etc.
  • Assist in compiling instructional resources for the maker space equipment
  • Maintain a safe and clean maker space
  • Attend meetings with Shiley School of Engineering staff to determine needs of department
  • Other relevant duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • Freshman, Sophomore or Junior in good standing preferred
  • Must have completed Pilot Space EGR 110 with an A or B grade
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Pays close attention to detail
  • Is ethical/trustworthy
  • Has ability to take instruction
  • Highly proficient computer skills
  • Ability to communicate with students and faculty in a professional manner
  • Skilled at problem solving and helping students think through issues
  • Must be helpful, friendly, and good at giving directions
  • MUST be safety-minded and keep a watchful eye on operations throughout the room without distraction
Preferred Qualifications
  • CAD/CAM Experience
  • Electronics testing and soldering skills
  • Experienced at programming an Arduino & Raspberry Pi
