Job description

Embark on a rewarding career journey at Applied Underwriters, where employees have been at the heart of our success story for more than 30 years. Headquartered in Omaha, NE, our company thrives on innovation and empowers our employees to shape the future of global risk services. Join a team where your ideas are valued and your talents are nurtured with formal, paid training and mentorship. Experience a workplace culture that celebrates initiative, recognizes results, and provides outstanding benefits that allow you to focus on achieving your full potential.
This role is an excellent opportunity for a law school graduate or legally trained professional to apply their legal reasoning and analytical skills in the insurance industry. In this position, you will investigate and resolve liability claims. Core functions include interpreting policy coverage, analyzing liability exposures, and negotiating claim resolutions.
We offer attorney-level compensation and a clear advancement path with excellent work-life balance. The role is ideal for candidates who enjoy analyzing complex legal issues and developing practical, risk-balanced solutions that protect the company and its policyholders. It offers litigation exposure and leverages legal reasoning.
Although this is a claims adjuster role, we intentionally seek candidates with a Juris Doctor because legal training aligns well with the complexity and judgment necessary to succeed. Bar admission is not required.
Requirements:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), and able to quickly learn claims management and case tracking systems.

This is a claims adjuster role with a legal and liability focus. While the position does not require bar admission or provide an attorney title internally, candidates with a Juris Doctor tend to excel due to the analytical and coverage-driven nature of the work.
Why Attorneys Succeed in This Role:
  • Attorney-level work without billable hours.
  • Direct application of legal analysis, judgment, and advocacy skills.
  • Exposure to complex, real-world liability issues across multiple professions.
  • Predictable workload and long-term career stability.
  • Clear development path into senior or complex claims roles.

Our Benefits Include:
  • 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees.
  • 401(k) plan with 100% immediate vesting and a 4% company match.
  • Paid time off (PTO) and paid holidays.
  • On-site pharmacy, Promesa, provides convenient prescription delivery directly to you.
  • Life, disability, critical illness and accident insurance.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
  • Pre-tax Flexible Spending Accounts for health, dependent care, and commuter-related expenses.
  • Tuition reimbursement.
  • Fitness reimbursement and various additional quality-of-life benefits.

$0 - $0 a year
