Their work is essential for companies that operate globally and need to move products across different countries and continents.

What are jobs in global logistics?

Global logistics is the common term for the practice of processing goods from initial production through their distribution to customers, including sourcing the raw materials required for the production process. In this role, you may manage international shipments along a supply chain, ensure each facility has everything it needs to continue its operations, and otherwise provide management and oversight of logistical needs. Global logistics managers help ensure cost-effective purchasing schedules, resolve problems with shipments, give reports to executives, and help prepare supply chains for future needs and company growth. What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in global logistics, and why are they important?

To thrive in Global Logistics, you need strong organizational skills, knowledge of supply chain processes, and typically a degree in logistics, business, or a related field. Familiarity with logistics management software, transportation management systems (TMS), and certifications such as APICS or CSCMP are commonly required. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and negotiation skills distinguish top performers in this field. These skills are essential for efficiently coordinating complex international shipments, managing risks, and ensuring seamless supply chain operations.

What are some common challenges faced in a global logistics role, and how can candidates prepare to address them?

Professionals in Global Logistics often navigate challenges like coordinating shipments across different countries, managing customs regulations, and dealing with supply chain disruptions. Candidates can prepare by developing strong problem-solving skills, staying informed on international trade laws, and gaining experience with logistics software. Being proactive in communication and collaborating closely with suppliers, carriers, and internal teams is also essential for smooth operations. Adaptability and attention to detail are key, as priorities can shift quickly due to unforeseen events such as delays or regulatory changes.
