Job description

Thornton Tomasetti applies engineering and scientific principles to solve the world's challenges. An independent organization of creative thinkers and innovative doers collaborating from offices worldwide, our mission is to bring our clients' ideas to life and, in the process, lay the groundwork for a better, more resilient future. We provide support and opportunities to our employees to achieve their full potential and cultivate a rewarding career.
Our Forensic practice investigates problems in the built environment and provides evidence-based solutions founded on rigorous science and physics. We assist attorneys, property managers, building owners, contractors, manufacturers, and design professionals with a wide range of engineering and architectural issues.
Your Role
If you're a structural engineer who wants bigger challenges, more technical depth, and a clear runway toward becoming a recognized expert, Thornton Tomasetti is the place where that trajectory happens. Our Senior Project Engineers don't just execute; they innovate, influence, and accelerate toward technical leadership while shaping some of the world's most complex structures.
You'll join a global collective of engineers who treat structural design as both science and craft. You will be trusted with meaningful responsibility and will grow your expertise faster because our environment is built for developing exceptional engineers into industry leaders.
As a Senior Structural Project Engineer in our Forensics Practice, you'll independently evaluate, adapt, and apply advanced engineering concepts to challenging forensic problems. You'll influence technical direction, mentor others, and engage in client-facing opportunities while contributing to proposals and thought leadership.
We welcome candidates with a strong structural design background who are excited to transition into forensics. If you're looking to apply your technical foundation in a more investigative, problem-solving environment, we'd be excited to hear from you.
What You'll Do
  • Handle forensic investigations and help develop innovative solutions for repair and remediation.
  • Prepare deliverables that communicate clearly with clients and legal teams.
  • Proactively coordinate with architects, contractors, consultants, and internal experts.
  • Contribute to proposals and represent TT's technical excellence with clients.
  • Build the leadership quality of seeing beyond tasks to how structural decisions shape outcomes, innovation, and long-term client value.
  • Mentor earlier-career engineers and enhance team technical capabilities.

What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering; Master's or PhD preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) and/or Structural Engineer (SE) licensure.
  • 6+ years of structural design experience.
  • Ability to independently develop engineering approaches and troubleshoot novel challenges.
  • Curiosity, initiative, and desire to grow into a technical leader.

Benefits
Depending on your employment status, benefits may include:
  • Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, AD&D, Disability and other voluntary benefits
  • Flexible Spending Accounts for Medical & Childcare
  • Paid Time Off, Family Leave for New Parents, Volunteer Time
  • Tuition Reimbursement
  • Commuter Transit (where available)
  • 401k retirement savings with Company matching on employee contributions and/or qualified student loan repayments
  • Fitness Reimbursement
  • And other various wellness, diversity/inclusion and employee resource programs and initiatives
