Job description

About Global Citizen

Global Citizen is a movement of engaged citizens who are using their collective voice to end extreme poverty. On our platform, Global Citizens learn about the systemic causes of extreme poverty, take action on these issues, and earn rewards for their actions as part of a global community committed to lasting change. Global Citizens have taken over 42.9 million actions since 2009. Today, these actions, in combination with high-level advocacy work, have led to over $49 billion being distributed to our partners around the world, impacting 1.3 billion lives in the fight to end extreme poverty.

Role Overview

Global Citizen is seeking a Senior Vice President VP, Strategy & Business Development to join the Office of the President. This role will drive growth through strategic deal leadership, bespoke partnership development, and the execution of multimillion-dollar transactions. The ideal candidate will bring significant experience across media, sports and entertainment, demonstrated success negotiating and closing complex commercial agreements, and the ability to build transformative partnerships with leading global brands, platforms, and content organizations.

Key Responsibilities:

Deal Architecture & Origination Weighed 50%

  • Independently identify, shape, and drive 2โ€“3 transformational partnership deals to close each year โ€” end to end, from concept to signed agreement
  • Design bespoke partnership structures from scratch: no templates, no playbook. Each deal requires an original business model built around a specific partnerโ€™s strategic priorities and alignment with Global Citizenโ€™s strategy and mission.ย
  • Develop the investment thesis and partner-facing narrative for each deal โ€” including financial modeling, value exchange logic, and strategic rationale.ย
  • Build and maintain a senior network of C-suite relationships across media, technology, and brand sectors to surface and advance opportunities

Partner Business Fluency Weighed 20%

  • Conduct deep business analysis on prospective partners โ€” understanding their P&L, strategic priorities, and competitive positioning well enough to identify value creation they havenโ€™t seen themselves
  • Structure deals that span content, distribution, data, technology, and commercial dimensions in combinations unique to each relationship
  • Lead multi-stakeholder negotiations, managing internal and external complexity across legal, finance, content, and operations

Cross-Functional Deal Execution Weighed 20%

  • Serve as deal principal across the full lifecycle โ€” aligning internal teams, managing partner relationships, and resolving deal-breaking issues as they arise
  • Partner closely with the VP of Partnerships on delivery of active agreements, providing strategic direction on complex decisions.ย
  • Ensure bespoke structures are operationalizable before close โ€” bridging deal design and execution reality

Strategic Thought Leadership Weighed 10%

  • Bring an informed, independent point of view on how brands are evolving the ways they build relevance, engage audiences, and create value, and what those shifts mean for Global Citizenโ€™s partnership strategy.
  • Present directly to the President and executive team on deal status, market opportunities, and strategic recommendations
  • Help build the organizationโ€™sย  institutional capability to win complex, non-standard deals over time

Fundamental Requirements

Education & Experienceย

  • Must Haves
    • 10+ years in business development or strategy with a track record of personally leading and closing large, complex deals.
    • Experience structuring bespoke, multi-million dollar partnerships โ€” not managing a high-volume pipeline.
    • Deep fluency in media & entertainment: content, distribution, digital, and/or brand partnerships
    • Ability to build a deal from a blank page โ€” original business case construction, not template execution.
    • Executive-level communication; can present and negotiate at the C-suite without support
    • Exceptional analytical and commercial thinking โ€” can model a deal and intuit its strategic risk simultaneously.
  • Preferred
    • Experience operating in a lean, high-autonomy environment without a large deals team behind you.
    • Established senior network across media, tech, or brand sectors.
    • Background in management consulting, investment banking, or corp dev at a major media company.
    • Experience mentoring or elevating business development talent.

Attributes

  • Using AI tools to work smarter and drive impact is an essential part of every role at Global Citizen. All staff must integrate AI into their daily work, whether improving workflows, analyzing information, or enhancing communication in service of our mission.
  • Global Citizen is a fast-moving, mission-driven organization where bold ideas, smart risks, and decisive action are part of how we create impact. We are looking for people who are energized by ambitious goals, comfortable navigating change, and ready to work collaboratively across teams, time zones, and sectors. The pace is high and the work is meaningful, making this a strong fit for people who bring initiative, adaptability, courage, and a deep commitment to driving real-world change.
