Hiring Range

$85,800.00 - $117,975.00/Annual Actual pay is determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, education, credentials, skills, internal equity, and business needs.

Location: Newport News, VA (not eligible for remote work)

Overview
The Network Security Engineer I plays a crucial role in designing, implementing, and maintaining robust network security solutions, utilizing industry-leading technologies and technology vendors. The ideal candidate will have several years of experience working with multiple technology vendors, methodologies, and approaches.Conducts and analyzes vulnerability scans (hosts and network) and performs network security threat/impact assessments. The candidate will report to the Chief Information Security Officer and will participate in daily operational needs as well as strategic projects for the health system.
What you will do

  • Conduct and analyze vulnerability scans (hosts and network).

  • Perform network security threat/impact assessments.

  • Oversee host-based security across the Health System to include: antivirus, HIPS, data loss prevention, and rogue system detection.

  • Respond to malware reports and assist in implementing protective/anti-malware measures.

  • Enforce computer and network security processes.

  • Confer with management, technical staff, and end-users to define requirements for new systems and security infrastructure development.

  • Ensure maximum uptime for Firewalls, Endpoint protection and VPNs.

  • Design highly secure infrastructure to ensure maximum uptimes and performance.


Qualifications
Education

  • High School Diploma or GED, (Required)

  • Bachelors Degree, Computer Science/Information Systems or related field (Preferred)


Experience

  • 3-4 years Working knowledge of technical security solutions (Firewalls, NIDS, HIDS, SIEM, Endpoint Protection, Email Security, MFA, etc.)
    (Required)

  • 3-4 years Enforcing security policies, procedures and plans to safeguard data and systems from cyber attacks (Required)

  • 1 year Azure and/or AWS cloud experience (Preferred)

  • 2 years Broad technical security knowledge of networking, and Windows and Linux operating systems (Preferred)


Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Internet security best practices

  • GIAC Information Security Fundamentals (GISF) certification Preferred

  • Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP) Preferred


Licenses and Certifications

  • CompTIA Security+ - CompTIA (Required)

  • Network (Plus) - CompTIA (Required)

  • CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst (CySA+) - CompTIA (Required)

  • Microsoft Certified Azure Fundamentals - Microsoft (Preferred)
