Job description

Job Summary:
We are seeking a motivated and dedicated GIS Intern to join our team. This position is an excellent opportunity for students studying GIS, Geography, Engineering, or a related field to gain hands-on experience supporting geographic information systems in a construction and engineering environment. As an intern, you will work alongside experienced GIS and engineering professionals, learn valuable technical skills, and contribute to the success of ESS's projects.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Support GIS Operations: Assist with maintaining and organizing data in ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Pro under the guidance of the GIS Administrator.
  • Data Collection & Field Support: Assist with field data collection using mobile GIS applications, helping capture accurate spatial information from job sites.
  • Data Entry & Maintenance: Help update, clean, and organize geospatial datasets to support data integrity and long-term usability.
  • Assist with GIS-CAD Workflows: Support efforts to align GIS data with CAD drawings used by engineering and construction teams.
  • Maintain Documentation: Help create and update process documentation, maps, and reference materials for use across project teams.
  • Support Crew and Project Teams: Collaborate with engineering, construction, and field crews to ensure spatial data needs are met accurately and on time.
  • Follow Safety Protocols: Adhere to all safety regulations and guidelines when supporting field data collection or visiting job sites.
  • Learn and Develop Skills: Take advantage of learning opportunities to build GIS, spatial analysis, and project coordination skills.

Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in a technical school, college, or university program in GIS, Geography, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to learn new technical systems.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
  • Basic familiarity with ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, or similar GIS software is a plus but not required.
