Job description

Kunkel Engineering Group a Geo-Logic Associates Company is seeking a full-time GIS Specialist in our Beaver Dam or West Bend office. Ideal candidate should be self-motivated, possess excellent communication skills, and pay strong attention to detail.


Experience

Three years of prior GIS experience, with some consulting experience is preferred. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic to work with engineers, hydrogeologists, project managers, and other technical staff in the preparation of drawings, designs and figures associated with technical documents. Organization, communication, and design skills will be essential to efficiently produce quality outputs while meeting budget and schedules on multiple concurrent projects.


Responsibilities

  • Plan and control work process, including the following:
  • Manage resources to meet utilization objectives.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure quality control procedures are implemented.
  • Mentor and monitor standard operating procedures.
  • Implement safety protocols.
  • Team with upper management to develop strategy and tactics to grow the practice and support the environmental national practice.
  • Manage projects, including financial management, contract negotiation, directing technical work, and client and regulatory liaison.
  • Stay abreast with current GIS technology and inspire innovation among team members.
  • Perform as a technical resource in field of expertise and mentor to others.
  • Achieve utilization of at least 50%.
  • Knowledge of GIS software including but not limited to proficiency and experience using ESRI’s ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS for Desktop suite of software and the implementation and development of Web based GIS platforms using ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online.
  • Strong background in database management practices and an understanding of relational data management systems
  • Knowledge of and experience with software tangential to GIS applications and the ability to support and integrate into existing or new GIS workflows
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to embrace change
  • Ability to manage conflict with staff and clients
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability
  • Consistent ownership and follow through to manage assigned tasks
  • Strong writing abilities, along with good oral communication and presentation skills


Qualified applicants will have experience with all the following:

  • Applying Microsoft Excel features such as pivot tables, charts, database connections, complex/nested formulas, etc.
  • Performing business-related activities as part of automated systems’ development (activities may include requirements gathering and management, data design & system analysis, system testing & training)
  • Utilizing ArcGIS or similar spatial tools and applications.
  • Communicating complex or technical information to non-technical audiences.


In addition to having all the above, well qualified applicants will have one or more of the following:

  • Experience designing and developing data visualization results as part of information dashboards, including graphs, charts, and maps.
  • Experience with spatial analysis techniques using ArcGIS
  • Good Driving Record & valid WI driver’s license


Minimum Qualifications Include: Associates degree in Geography, Geographic Information Systems, Cartography, or related field; two years’ experience in GIS and cartographic functions equivalent combinations of job-related education and experience may be considered.


Position Summary

The Geographic Information System (GIS) and Field Data Coordinator is a full-time year-round position responsible for managing GIS and research and monitoring data municipal clients throughout Southeastern Wisconsin. The GIS & Field Data Coordinator has a strong commitment to the conservation of biological diversity and will manage geospatial and other relational databases and help visualize data related to land stewardship, wildlife monitoring, public use of green spaces, and other research projects.

This position will serve as coordinator for a number of the Center’s monitoring projects, assist in field surveys and management activities for the natural areas of the three branches, and generate reports to stakeholders including the Annual Review.


Duties and Responsibilities:

GIS services

  • Create maps and reports using ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, and ESRI Story Maps
  • Assist in location-based (GPS) surveying and monitoring and hands-on restoration efforts
  • Provide data and mapping support for Leadership, Education, Community Programs, Marketing, and other departments


Research Data Management

  • Field data collection and assurance of quality control and quality assurance across wildlife monitoring and natural area research projects
  • Steward all of the Center’s field data in duplicate electronic and paper formats and make them accessible to internal and external parties
  • Create various reports to stakeholders, including the Annual Review of Research


Working Conditions:

A combination of field data collection (outside in uneven terrain and different weather conditions) and office work

Physical Requirements: Sitting in an office chair at a computer for extended lengths of time. Endurance to work outdoors throughout the seasons, lift heavy objects and properly use hand and power tools and equipment. Must be able to lift objects up to 40 pounds.

Equipment Used: GPS Units, GIS software, computer, printer/copier, power tools, wildlife monitoring equipment: cameras, traps, nets, water quality devices, etc.


Candidate also must meet the following criteria:

  • Be eligible to work in the United States
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen
