PTS Advance is seeking an Assistant GIS Specialist to support FirstEnergy's Environmental team in Akron, Ohio. This is an excellent opportunity for recent graduates or early-career GIS professionals looking to gain hands-on experience with industry-leading geospatial technologies while working alongside experienced professionals on utility and environmental projects.

In this role, you'll assist with GIS data development, mapping, spatial analysis, and database management while collaborating with multidisciplinary project teams. If you're detail-oriented, enjoy solving spatial challenges, and have experience with ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online, we'd love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with GIS analysis, data collection, data development, and mapping for environmental and utility projects.
  • Create, update, and maintain GIS maps, geospatial databases, and map layers.
  • Perform metadata creation, digital feature extraction, land survey research, and property ownership research.
  • Support coordinate system projections and geospatial data transformations.
  • Georeference raster and vector datasets.
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) of GIS deliverables.
  • Utilize ArcGIS, Microsoft Office, deeds, field notes, and project documentation to develop mapping products.
  • Communicate project status with internal teams and clients.
  • Support project goals while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and customer service.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (completed) in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geography, Geomatics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Internship or related GIS consulting experience preferred.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 strongly preferred.
  • Master's degree may substitute for one year of experience.
  • GISP or Esri Technical Certification is a plus.
