A GIS Python Developer (Remote) is a software developer who specializes in using the Python programming language to work with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) while working from a remote location. Their primary responsibilities include creating, maintaining, and optimizing geospatial data processing applications, automating GIS workflows, and integrating spatial data with various software platforms. They often use libraries like ArcPy, GeoPandas, and GDAL, and collaborate with teams on mapping, analysis, and visualization projects. Remote GIS Python Developers need strong programming and GIS skills, as well as the ability to communicate and manage projects virtually.

Job description

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Staff Fullstack Engineer to help drive technical excellence and innovation across our global platform. In this role, you will focus on leveraging AI to transform how talent connects with opportunities. Youll tackle complex technical challenges that span our entire ecosystem, from AI-powered matching algorithms to scalable, high-performance marketplace infrastructure.

This is a senior-level, hands-on role for a "player-coach" who serves as a technical role model for the entire company. We are looking for a leader with low ego, a "one team" mentality, and a strong sense of ownership. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth startup environment and is skilled at approaching engineering through the lens of solving core business problems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership: Drive architectural decisions and set the technical strategy for key platform initiatives, particularly those involving AI-driven talent matching.
  • System Design & Implementation: Architect, build, and maintain scalable, robust, and maintainable systems. Design and implement core platform capabilities and new AI-powered features.
  • Mentorship: Mentor other engineers, elevate the team's technical discourse, and champion engineering best practices for system reliability and performance.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product managers to shape technical strategy, partner with data scientists to implement and optimize AI/ML models, and collaborate with security teams to ensure global compliance.
  • Code Excellence: Write high-quality, production-ready code, with a mandatory, expert-level proficiency in both Python and Ruby on Rails.

Qualifications

Must-Have

  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Expert-level proficiency in both Python AND Ruby on Rails. This is a firm requirement.
  • 7+ years of technical leadership experience, with a proven track record of driving complex, cross-functional projects.
  • Strong background in designing, building, and scaling distributed systems and complex, scalable architectures (e.g., marketplace platforms).
  • A "startup mindset": Ideal candidates may have experience in a startup, moved to a larger company, and are now looking to return to a high-growth, high-ownership environment.
  • Demonstrated stability in previous roles (no "job-hoppers").
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Based in the United States.
  • Note: We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this role. Green Card holders are welcome to apply.

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with AI/ML platform development, talent matching algorithms, or recommendation systems.
  • Experience with large-scale data processing and analytics.
  • Familiarity with global compliance and data privacy requirements (e.g., GDPR).
  • Academic background from top-tier computer science programs (e.g., MIT, Harvard, Berkeley, Stanford, Georgia Tech).
  • Experience working in fully distributed, remote teams.
  • A track record of publishing technical content or speaking at conferences.

Package Details

Compensation

  • Salary: $250,000 - $275,000
  • Equity: Included as part of the compensation package.

Location & Travel

  • Location: 100% Fully Remote (US-based).
  • Travel: 0%
  • Relocation: Not offered.

Key Benefits

  • Work Culture: Fully remote and flexible working hours.
  • Stipend: A "Bring your own device" stipend is provided to purchase a laptop.
  • Healthcare: Medical benefits are included.
  • Retirement: 401k / pension plan.
