Job description

Job Overview

Under general supervision, collects, verifies, and maintains geographic information system

(GIS) data to support the City's infrastructure inventory, mapping, and maintenance

operations.


Specific Tasks, Duties, & Responsibilities

  • Collect field data using GPS and GIS equipment.
  • Identify, locate, and document City assets and other points of interest.
  • Verify the accuracy of field data and resolve discrepancies.
  • Update and maintain GIS databases and related records.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation related to field data collection activities.
  • Communicate project progress and field observations to supervisors and team members.
  • Safely operate City vehicles, equipment, and technology used in the performance of assignedduties.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


Worker Requirements

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid Louisiana driver's license.
  • Experience using GPS or GIS equipment is preferred.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Basic computer skills and the ability to accurately enter and maintain electronic records.
  • Ability to read maps and interpret geographic data.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to follow established safety procedures and work practices.


Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • Ability to perform moderate physical labor, including walking, standing, bending, and lifting throughout the workday.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on uneven terrain.
  • Ability to safely operate GPS equipment, computers, and other field technology.


Hours/Scheduling

  • Typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Overtime may be required based on operational needs.
