Geocgi is seeking a GIS Solutions Engineer to support enterprise GIS systems, application development, and data integration efforts in a mission-driven environment for our client, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency (NOAA). This role focuses on designing, implementing, and maintaining GIS solutions that support operational workflows, data analysis, and enterprise communication capabilities. The ideal candidate brings strong experience in GIS software development, systems integration, and enterprise geospatial workflows, along with the ability to independently support complex technical assignments.

This opportunity will be performed onsite at the location of 1315 Silver Spring Metro Complex 3; Marine Chart Division, Silver Spring, Maryland, 20910.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform GIS system capability analysis, software installation, testing, and validation activities.
  • Design, develop, and maintain complex GIS and desktop applications supporting operational users and workflows.
  • Support operational automation and communications software in accordance with installation standards and licensing requirements.
  • Coordinate and execute major GIS data integration and data analysis projects.
  • Integrate GIS capabilities with web technologies and enterprise communication platforms.
  • Develop and present GIS products, cartographic mapping elements, and technical solutions.
  • Respond to technical inquiries from users, developers, contractors, and stakeholders regarding GIS requirements.
  • Support development and implementation of GIS policies, procedures, and quality standards.
  • Ensure adherence to documentation standards, software development processes, and code review practices.
  • Collaborate across teams to support enterprise geospatial systems and operational requirements.

The following areย requirementsย of the GIS Solutions Engineer:

  • U.S. Citizen and Active U.S. Passport.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Physical Science, or related field.
  • More than 10 years of experience in GIS software development, systems integration, and enterprise geospatial solutions.
  • Experience designing, developing, and maintaining GIS applications and enterprisescale geospatial systems.
  • Experience supporting geospatial data integration, analysis, and operational GIS workflows.
  • Familiarity with desktop application development and enterprise GIS environments.
  • Strong understanding of GIS software engineering principles, system architecture, and integration concepts.
  • Ability to independently plan, manage, and execute complex technical assignments.
  • Experience supporting ENC validation and processing environments, including ICENC workflows and CHURN or comparable hydrographic validation systems.
  • Experience configuring and managing geospatial web services, APIs, and vector tile services for data dissemination.
  • Experience operating and maintaining production systems in AWS, including compute, storage, networking, and monitoring services.
  • Familiarity with S57 and emerging S100/S101 standards for cataloging, packaging, and validating maritime geospatial data.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

The following are preferred of the GIS Solutions Engineer:

  • Public Trust Clearance.
  • Experience supporting enterprise GIS modernization efforts.
  • Familiarity with web-based GIS communication platforms and mapping applications.
  • Experience supporting federal, defense, or large-scale operational environments.
  • Experience with formal software development processes, code reviews, and technical documentation.
  • Exposure to scripting, automation, or database-driven GIS workflows.

The annual base salary range for this position is anticipated to be $100,000 $140,000 USD. The listed salary range represents our good faith estimate for this position.
