Job description

The General Sales Manager (GSM) is responsible for overseeing all sales operations within the dealership, including new and used vehicle sales, sales team performance, customer experience, and profitability. The GSM develops and implements processes that drive consistent growth, increased market share, and improved gross profit while maintaining a high standard of customer satisfaction. This role is critical in building a scalable sales operation that supports long-term dealership growth.
Key Responsibilities
Sales Leadership & Performance
  • Lead, coach, and develop the sales team to consistently achieve and exceed monthly sales targets.
  • Manage daily sales operations including desk deals, inventory management, and pricing strategy.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as units sold, gross profit, closing ratios, and sales productivity.
  • Conduct daily sales meetings and ongoing training to improve sales skills and process execution.

Process & Accountability
  • Establish and enforce a structured sales process from lead generation to vehicle delivery.
  • Ensure CRM usage, lead follow-up, and appointment setting standards are consistently maintained.
  • Hold sales staff accountable to daily activity metrics including calls, appointments, and showroom traffic.
  • Maintain strong communication between sales, finance, and service departments.

Inventory & Merchandising

Financial Performance

Customer Experience
  • Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction throughout the buying process.
