Position Summary

Assists the surgeon and nursing personnel in a variety of surgical procedures in the Operating Room and Gastrointestinal (GI) Lab.

Essential Functions

  • Performs scrub duties, including preparation of the sterile field and anticipation of surgeon's needs, for multiple surgical procedures, including but not limited to general, orthopedic, gynecological, podiatric, urological, and gastrointestinal specialties under supervision of the surgical team.
  • Prepares and sets up the operating room and equipment for surgical procedures based on knowledge of the procedure and surgeon preference.
  • Prepares and maintains the integrity of the sterile field.
  • Performs counts of instruments, sponges, and needles with a registered nurse, to promote a safety-first environment, as indicated.
  • Assists with cleaning and restocking of the operating rooms.
  • Transports surgical patients to and from the operating room, GI lab, Recovery Room and Outpatient Surgery.

Qualifications

  • Completed Surgical Tech program

  • Understand sterile technique and sterile field
  • Ability to scrub, gown, and glove
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Able to perform CPR
