The Project Geotechnical Engineer - will play a key role in providing geotechnical and field engineering support throughout the lifecycle of ground improvement projects. This position will be responsible for geotechnical data interpretation, field and laboratory test coordination, QA/QC verification, technical submittals, and report preparation. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical capability, sound engineering judgment, and a solid understanding of construction operations related to ground improvement methods.Key Responsibilities
  • Review and interpret geotechnical investigation data (boring logs, CPT, laboratory reports) to support project design, bidding, and execution.
  • Perform preliminary geotechnical assessments during bidding stages to evaluate soil conditions, determine improvement feasibility, and assist in developing technical proposals.
  • Prepare and review technical submittals, including method statements, mix designs, QA/QC plans, and construction procedures in compliance with project specifications.
  • Coordinate and interpret bench-scale testing and laboratory verification programs to confirm binder performance and soil-binder compatibility.
  • Analyze Unconfined Compressive Strength (UCS) and other performance data to assess compliance with design and contractual requirements.
  • Provide field engineering support during DSM and DPC operations to ensure adherence to design parameters and specification tolerances.
  • Implement and monitor QA/QC procedures, verifying production records, test data, and as-built documentation.
  • Prepare technical reports, construction verification documents, test summaries, and project close-out packages for client submittal.
  • Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, laboratory personnel, and client representatives to ensure technical and quality objectives are achieved.
  • Ensure all engineering activities conform to safety, quality, and environmental standards as well as internal quality management systems.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (Master's degree preferred).
  • PE or FE License in CA is a plus, but not required
  • 5-10 years of geotechnical experience with emphasis on ground improvement construction, specifically Deep Soil Mixing.
  • Proven background in construction QA/QC, data processing and analysis, and technical documentation.
  • Strong understanding of soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering.
  • Familiarity with ASTM, AASHTO, and relevant geotechnical testing standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing and client correspondence.
  • Ability to manage multiple project assignments and travel to job sites as needed.
  • Proficiency with geotechnical software (e.g., PLAXIS, Settle3, SLIDE, or equivalent) preferred.
