Description
Position. College or University level Geotechnical Engineer / Geologist Intern
Location. Moab, Utah
Duration. 4-12 weeks
Compensation. Paid
This position is filled annually and interested parties are encouraged to reach out regarding availability at any time. Support for housing may be available and will be evaluated on an individual basis.
Company Summary. Moab Geotechnical Group LLC is a Geotechnical Engineering firm based in Moab, Utah that provides engineering and geological assessments, soils testing, and onsite wastewater design support throughout the Colorado Plateau, Intermountain West and Southwestern states. We are a small collaborative team that focuses on delivering high quality work to our clients and providing opportunities for growth and experience to our employees.
Position Summary. As an intern on our team, you will have the opportunity to work alongside professional Geotechnical Engineers and Laboratory Directors to provide support throughout the various stages of a project and gain experience with field, laboratory and engineering tasks. All experiences will be designed to challenge and support you with developing judgement and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.
Responsibilities. As an intern on our team, you will be asked to perform assignments requiring the application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to carry out engineering tasks. You will have the opportunity to perform laboratory testing and compile and organize laboratory testing results and data for use in reports. You will work under supervision of a project manager, senior-level team member, or laboratory director to perform duties or tasks assigned to you.
Specific responsibilities include:
• Assist with field investigations, including soil sampling, borehole logging, and site reconnaissance
• Support and preparation of geotechnical reports, site assessments, and data analysis
• Help in the design, interpretation, and facilitation of geotechnical tests such as soil compaction, shear strength, and permeability tests
• Assist in creating and maintaining geotechnical database and GIS mapping
Position Requirements.
• Proficiency with geotechnical software, GIS tools, and Microsoft Office Suite is preferred
• Basic knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles, soil mechanics, and geological processes.
• Must be currently enrolled at an accredited university or community college, majoring in coursework for Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geology, or related field
