Job description

We are seeking a mid-career Geospatial Analyst to join our Mid-Atlantic Environmental Services Geospatial team. This role is intended for a technically strong, collaborative professional who can work with increasing independence, apply sound judgment to moderately complex GIS assignments, and help translate client and project needs into practical geospatial solutions within Esri ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and related field and web-mapping platforms.
As a member of Stantec's Environmental Services Geospatial team, comprising more than 160 geospatial professionals, you will contribute to project delivery, client service, and technical problem solving across environmental, infrastructure, and regulatory work. The successful candidate will bring broad technical knowledge, demonstrate initiative in adapting established workflows, support quality and efficiency improvements, and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary project teams.
As a Geospatial Analyst with Stantec, you will provide technical support and applied GIS expertise for assigned projects, including mapping applications, spatial analysis, web mapping, data management, field data workflows, and map production. This full-time position supports our Mid-Atlantic Region Environmental Services group and offers opportunities to mentor junior staff, strengthen repeatable workflows, and contribute to consistent project delivery.
Your Key Responsibilities
  • Compile, create, maintain, and QA/QC spatial and non-spatial data across Esri ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and related project platforms, applying established data standards and recommending improvements when appropriate.
  • Work in Windows 11 Enterprise and using MS Office suite of applications (Teams, Outlook, Word, Access, Excel, SharePoint).
  • Produce custom thematic map products, spatial analyses, data summaries, and visual deliverables that clearly communicate project findings and support multidisciplinary decision-making.
  • Develop and maintain web maps, dashboards, field data collection tools, and hosted data workflows using ArcGIS Online, Survey123, Field Maps, and related applications.
  • Support and help coordinate geospatial field data collection efforts, including preparation of mobile maps and forms, field data review, troubleshooting, and integration of field observations into project datasets.
  • Apply established cartographic standards and Quality Assurance / Quality Control processes while identifying opportunities to improve consistency, efficiency, and repeatability across common GIS deliverables.
  • Manage a wide variety of project-specific and reference geospatial data in accordance with defined data management standards, including appropriate organization, documentation, permissions, and data lifecycle practices.
  • Recognize when technical issues, data inconsistencies, or workflow risks are developing; initiate appropriate corrective actions and communicate options to project managers or senior technical staff.
  • Collaborate with GIS staff, environmental practitioners, project managers, and other disciplines across Stantec offices to support efficient delivery and shared technical standards.
  • Provide day-to-day technical guidance, review, or mentoring to junior GIS staff on assigned tasks, including data preparation, mapping workflows, field applications, and QA/QC expectations.
  • Report to the Mid-Atlantic Geospatial Team Lead while coordinating closely with project managers and technical leads on schedule, budget, quality, and delivery expectations.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Demonstrated experience working with the Esri ArcGIS software suite, primarily ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online, with practical experience using tools such as ArcGIS Experience Builder, ArcGIS Field Maps, and ArcGIS Survey123.
  • Experience applying GIS to solve project problems, support client and team decision-making, present results, and clearly communicate analytical findings to multidisciplinary audiences.
  • Strong technical training and professional experience in GIS mapping, geospatial analysis, data management, and geographic principles, including map projections, coordinate systems, and data transformation workflows.
  • Demonstrated understanding of cartography, data visualization, and graphic communication, with the ability to create clear, accurate, and client-ready map and dashboard products.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative consulting environment while managing multiple assignments, adapting to changing priorities, and maintaining quality standards.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision, estimate and communicate task needs, meet project deadlines, and understand how assigned work supports broader project goals, budget, and client expectations.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal teams, clients, field staff, and project managers through clear communication, responsiveness, and sound professional judgment.
  • Ability to perform work accurately in a detail-oriented environment.
  • Exceptional visual, written, and verbal communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail.
  • Experience converting, standardizing, and integrating data from legacy or external sources into accurate digital GIS formats while documenting assumptions, limitations, and quality considerations.
  • Valid state driver's license
