Geographic Information System SpecialistEmployment Status: Full TimeFLSA Status: Non-ExemptExperience Required: Two (2) years of full-time experience with spatial data and the maintenance of GIS databases or utility or asset management GIS systems.Minimum Education Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in GIS, Surveying, Geography, Urban Planning, or similarly related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience with a completed apprenticeship program associated with GIS.Licensing / Certifications: Must possess a valid Driver’s License.Direct Supervisor: Planning Department ManagerPeople Supervised: Direct (0), Indirect (0), Supervise and/or train employees of the same classification or lower depending on the task.Physical Requirements: Visual and Hearing acuity, physically mobilePrimary Work Location: Office Environment; frequent interaction with staff and the public.Job Summary: Under general direction from the Planning Department Manager, assists in development, creation and maintenance of geographic information systems (GIS) databases using GIS hardware or software applications. Provides technical expertise in GIS technology to users. Coordinates assigned activities with other departments and outside agencies.
