Job description

Geospatial Systems Engineer (TS/SCI)

Location:
Springfield, VA

Position Summary

The Senior Geospatial Systems Engineer leads the architecture, design, and sustainment of secure, scalable enterprise geospatial solutions supporting Department of Defense and Intelligence Community (IC) missions. This role bridges enterprise GIS and modern cloud-native software engineering, focusing heavily on Kubernetes orchestration, DevSecOps pipelines, and containerized microservices within secure environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Containerization & Infrastructure: Architect, deploy, and manage containerized geospatial microservices using Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenShift. Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines with automated testing, Static Code Analysis, and Container Security Scanning.
  • Enterprise GIS Architecture: Design, integrate, and optimize enterprise GIS platforms (ArcGIS Enterprise/Pro, GeoServer, PostGIS) and interoperable OGC-compliant web services (WMS, WFS, WMTS, OGC API – Features).
  • Data Pipelines & AI/ML: Develop enterprise geospatial data pipelines supporting acquisition, transformation, spatial analysis, and AI/ML model integration.
  • Security & Compliance: Ensure all systems strictly comply with Risk Management Framework (RMF), STIGs, vulnerability remediation, and IC cybersecurity policies.
  • Technical Leadership: Lead Agile/Scrum engineering workflows, conduct architecture and code reviews, and mentor software personnel across the lifecycle.

Required Qualifications

  • Clearance & Citizenship: Active TS/SCI security clearance; U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Experience: 10+ years in systems/software engineering and enterprise GIS integration (minimum 5+ years supporting DoD/IC programs).
  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in CS, Software Engineering, GIS, or a related technical discipline.
  • Containerization & DevSecOps: Deep hands-on experience deploying and orchestrating containerized applications with Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenShift, along with automated CI/CD security workflows.
  • Geospatial Stack: Mastery of ArcGIS Enterprise/Pro, GeoServer, QGIS, PostGIS/PostgreSQL, and OGC standards implementation.
  • Software Engineering: Advanced proficiency in Python, JavaScript, SQL, and C++ or C#.
  • Security Standards: Demonstrated expertise in RMF, STIG compliance, and secure SDLC practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant technical certifications (CKA/CKAD for Kubernetes, AWS/Azure, CISSP, or GISP).
  • Experience with cloud-native geospatial microservices and AI/ML pipeline integration.
  • Familiarity with commercial exploitation tools (ENVI, RemoteView, ERDAS IMAGINE, Skyline).
  • Background supporting Army modernization initiatives or multi-domain operations.
