Job description

The Air Force Senior Geospatial Project Manager will perform project management duties including; developing and executing project plans, gathering requirements and acceptance criteria, developing work breakdown structures including affiliated timelines, monitoring and submitting deliverables, managing project budgets and schedules, and defining project risks. This is an agile team who executes the work according to scrum methodologies.

Within the NV5 eGIS business unit this position will serve as a project manager for the Air Force Geospatial Program. This dynamic and growing program currently supports the Air Mobility Command (AMC). The successful candidate will be required to work onsite at Scott Air Force Base (AFB) where the AMC team is housed, and it is expected that this PM will provide real-time project progress reporting, support the execution teams, and serve as a primary POC to the federal clients. Success is defined by meeting or exceeding clients’ expectations within budget, on schedule and with a focus on excellence in customer communications and flexibility through agile project management techniques. Previous geospatial project management experience or technical skills is preferred given the nature of the programmatic work.

In addition to project management activities, this position will contribute to the growth of the eGIS business by identifying eGIS opportunities, supporting our account managers with opportunities identified by related company teams, representing NV5 at industry events, and other eGIS business development activities, as necessary. Long term, there are growth opportunities to expand leadership in the Air Force portfolio.

Work Environment:

  • Location is Onsite: This position requires the employee to be onsite at Scott Air Force Base (AFB) for primary work duties.
  • Clearance:  DoD Secret clearance with ability to obtain TS
  • Travel < 20% of the time

  • Work closely with the NV5 Air Force Program Manager and our federal clients to lead and manage large, multi-year enterprise GIS projects for clients, using the Agile project management techniques.
  • Work with project stakeholders in a collaborative and professional manner to identify product needs and acceptance.  
  • Support technical project team(s), consisting of software architect(s), application developer(s), GIS specialist(s), data analyst(s), business analyst(s), documentation specialist(s), and content subject matter experts (SMEs), located in various corporate offices, remote offices, etc. The role will require continuous collaboration and coordination with the team members. 
  • Manage project teams and tasking utilizing web-based collaboration tools (e.g., MS Teams, MS SharePoint, etc.), and established project management tools (e.g., Azure DevOps, Kanban boards, etc.) to keep projects within planned schedules and budgets.
  • Ensure project stakeholder engagement throughout project life cycles. Lead face-to-face meetings with clients.
  • Serve as a trusted agent within the program in order to facilitate program flow, progress capture and reporting. 
  • Manage subcontractor budgets and resources to support project execution.
  • Maintain project budgets utilizing corporate financial planning and tracking tools (e.g., Deltek) adhering to corporate process and procedure.
  • Coordinate closely with company’s eGIS DOD/DOW Division Lead and associated account managers.
  • Contribute technical GIS subject matter expertise and domain knowledge, as necessary.

  • Ability to lead and manage teams of varying sizes and skillsets. 

 Requirements:

  • Five years (minimum) of technical project leadership, with five+ years of experience in the geospatial field.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s in natural science, geospatial field (e.g., GIS, remote sensing, cartography, photogrammetry, etc.), business administration, or related field or equivalent work experience. 
  • Demonstrated experience working within an Agile software development methodology.
  • Highly motivated team player with mature, positive attitude and passion to meet the challenges and opportunities of the business.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience supporting complex Esri-based GIS projects within a large enterprise context (including software applications development components).
  • Experience with business process analysis, data management, and enterprise geodatabase modeling.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects of varying complexity/scope.
  • Ability to adapt to new technology trends and translate them into solutions that address client needs. 

 Experience/Skills Preferred (in addition to requirements):

  • Certification in project management (e.g., PMI PMP).
  • Certified Agile Scrum Master or Scrum Product Owner.
  • Experience working with government agencies and academic organizations.
  • Experience in creating and maintaining detailed documentation.
  • Knowledge of software development lifecycle.
  • Basic knowledge of geospatial architecture, back-end server technologies (IT infrastructure), front-end delivery technologies, and systems integration concepts.
  • Knowledge of geospatial standards, policies, and data portals. 
  • Experience with spatial analyses and problem solving.
  • Experience working with a broad array of geospatial datasets, including numerous forms of vector (point, line, polygon) and raster data.
