THE OPPORTUNITY

Build the internal capability that enables American Bath Group to understand petrochemical markets independently, challenge supplier pricing confidently, and make stronger sourcing decisions.

American Bath Group is a North American manufacturer of bathware products serving residential and commercial markets through a portfolio of recognized brands and a broad manufacturing and distribution network. ABG is strengthening its enterprise supply chain to make faster, more independent, and more commercially sophisticated decisions across the materials that are most important to its products and operations.

THE ROLE

ABG is creating an internal chemical market intelligence capability to independently interpret resin and petrochemical markets, validate supplier pricing, anticipate feedstock movements, and improve global sourcing decisions. This role will work closely with the Sr. Manager, Resin Supply Chain and partner across Supply Chain, Finance, Manufacturing, Engineering, suppliers, and senior leadership.

This is not a research-only or market-reporting position. The successful candidate will use market evidence, contract logic, indices, global source intelligence, and commercial judgment to recommend whether ABG should accept, challenge, defer, renegotiate, qualify an alternative, or change its sourcing posture.

WHAT YOU’LL OWN

Build the capability: Create the models, databases, market-source network, forecast cadence, and decision routines that will become ABG’s chemical intelligence operating system.

Map the value chain: Connect upstream feedstocks, intermediates, capacity, outages, trade flows, freight, contracts, and timing to downstream resin economics.

Validate supplier pricing: Test price requests against contract formulas, applicable indices, timing, historical movement, independent market evidence, and global context.

Forecast the market: Develop recurring 30-, 60-, 90-day and quarterly views with clear assumptions, risks, scenarios, and commercial implications.

Monitor supply risk: Track outages, force majeure events, capacity changes, geopolitical developments, regional supply-demand conditions, duties, freight, and trade flows.

Evaluate source alternatives: Assess domestic and imported options in partnership with Supply Chain, Engineering, and Manufacturing, including economics, lead time, qualification risk, and supply continuity.

Turn insight into action: Translate complex technical and market information into a clear recommendation for sourcing and executive stakeholders.

Support commercial execution: Serve as the analytical counterpart to the Sr. Manager, Resin Supply Chain in supplier negotiations and enterprise resin strategy.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE IN YEAR ONE

Within the first 90 days, map priority value chains, supplier pricing mechanisms, indices, contract logic, data sources, and critical information gaps.

Create an initial historical database and a repeatable method for validating material supplier price adjustments.

By month six, establish a recurring market-intelligence and forecasting cadence that provides decision-ready views rather than supplier summaries.

By month nine, build a global source and market-monitoring view that tests domestic supplier narratives against regional and international market reality.

By month twelve, embed a repeatable enterprise operating system and demonstrate how the work affected sourcing, negotiation, cost validation, forecast confidence, or supply-risk decisions.

WHAT YOU BRING

Direct experience with petrochemical feedstocks, chemical commodities, resin economics, or a closely related upstream-to-downstream value chain.

Personal authorship of supplier-price validation, formula- or index-based contract analysis, commodity sourcing recommendations, negotiation strategy, source evaluation, or another material commercial decision.

Working knowledge of global and regional supply, import/export sources, trade flows, freight, duties, lead time, qualification risk, and regional price spreads.

Ability to select and interpret relevant indices, reconcile them to contract mechanisms, build cost and forecast models, test scenarios, and explain forecast variance.

Evidence of building analytical tools, processes, databases, market networks, or intelligence routines in an immature or build environment.

Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to translate complex market evidence into an executive-ready recommendation.

Ability to work independently in a remote role while developing strong relationships across technical, operational, financial, and commercial teams.

RELEVANT BACKGROUNDS MAY INCLUDE

Petrochemical or refinery-downstream producers

Resin, monomer, or chemical-intermediate manufacturers

Chemical distributors, traders, or supply-and-trading organizations

Direct-material sourcing, chemical procurement, commodity management, pricing, or commercial-intelligence teams

Market-intelligence providers when combined with prior producer, trading, sourcing, contract, or commercial ownership

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

Thermoset resins, unsaturated polyester resin, acrylic resin, gelcoat, composites, or adjacent material systems.

ICIS, CMA, Chemical Data, Tecnon OrbiChem, Argus, OPIS, S&P Global Commodity Insights, or comparable services.

Multi-site manufacturing environments and Engineering-led material qualification.

Education in chemistry, chemical engineering, economics, finance, supply chain, or a related discipline.

An established professional network capable of validating market conditions beyond published sources and incumbent suppliers.

This role is best suited for someone who has worked within or adjacent to the petrochemical supply chain and has used market intelligence to influence real commercial decisions. Experience limited primarily to market reporting, general research, laboratory work, or procurement support without direct commercial ownership is unlikely to provide the required foundation.
