What are some of the typical challenges geopolitical consultants face in their daily work?

They must stay up-to-date with global news and navigate complex cultural, economic, and political factors when advising clients. Working under tight deadlines and collaborating with cross-functional teams, such as risk analysts or corporate strategists, is common. Overcoming these challenges requires adaptability, a keen eye for detail, and strong communication skills to provide timely and informed recommendations.

How much do geopolitical consultants make?

Geopolitical consultants typically earn between $70,000 and $150,000 annually, depending on experience, education, and the complexity of projects. Senior consultants or those working for large organizations can earn higher salaries, often exceeding $200,000 with specialized skills and extensive experience.

What is the highest paid consultant job?

In the consulting industry, executive-level roles such as management consultants working in strategy or specialized fields like cybersecurity or financial advisory tend to have the highest salaries. Senior consultants with extensive experience and advanced certifications can earn six-figure incomes, especially in top firms or with niche expertise.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Geopolitical Consultant position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Geopolitical Consultant, you need a strong background in international relations, political science, analytical research, and often an advanced degree in a related field. Familiarity with data analysis software, geopolitical risk modeling tools, and current affairs databases is highly valuable. Exceptional communication, critical thinking, and cultural awareness are vital soft skills for translating complex geopolitical scenarios into actionable advice for clients. These skills and qualities are essential for delivering accurate insights and strategic recommendations in a rapidly changing global environment.

Job description

VP of Supply Chain

Value Driven Solutions (VDS) is looking for a VP of Supply Chain to join our interim executive bench, with this engagement deploying on-site at our PE-backed manufacturing client in the [Location] region. The VP of Supply Chain will take ownership of end-to-end supply chain performance — plan, source, make, deliver, return — and drive immediate working capital release while building a resilient, technology-enabled supply chain for the long term.

The ideal candidate will enjoy untangling complex global supply chains and have the ability to dig into demand, supply, and inventory data, weigh service-versus-cost options, and deliver the best possible balance of working capital, OTIF, and margin. The ideal candidate will apply their command of S&OP, IBP, and modern supply chain platforms and communicate effectively with planners, suppliers, executives, and the CFO.

Responsibilities:

  • Supply chain strategy – Own end-to-end supply chain strategy and execution including planning, procurement, logistics, distribution, and trade. Optimize global and regional distribution networks, including footprint, mode mix, and 3PL relationships.
  • Working capital and S&OP – Lead working capital programs targeting inventory, payables, and receivables; deliver near-term cash through SKU rationalization, MOQ resets, and supplier terms. Drive S&OP / IBP maturity from baseline through executive-grade integrated business planning.
  • Technology and risk – Stand up WMS, TMS, OMS, and demand planning tools and ensure they are actually used to drive decisions. Build supplier risk programs covering geopolitical, financial, ESG, and dual-sourcing exposure. Partner with Finance to translate supply chain improvements into reported margin and free cash flow.

Requirements:

  • 20+ years of supply chain leadership across at least three of: planning, procurement, logistics, distribution, and trade
  • Direct experience leading a supply chain function with $200M+ in flow
  • Deep familiarity with Oracle, SAP, NetSuite, Blue Yonder, Kinaxis, or comparable platforms
  • Track record reducing inventory by 15%+ and improving OTIF without service erosion
  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA or MS in Supply Chain preferred
  • APICS CSCP, CPIM, or CSCMP certifications preferred
  • International procurement and China / Mexico / Vietnam sourcing experience a plus
