What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Geologic Technician, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Geologic Technician, you need a solid understanding of geology, field sampling techniques, and data analysis, typically supported by an associate's or bachelor's degree in geology or a related field. Familiarity with GIS software, laboratory equipment, and data management systems is commonly required. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills help you excel in both fieldwork and team environments. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring accurate data collection, reliable analysis, and effective support for geoscientific projects.

What are some common challenges Geologic Technicians face when collecting and analyzing field data?

Geologic Technicians often work in varying and sometimes remote environments, which can present logistical and safety challenges during field data collection. They must ensure accuracy and consistency in sampling procedures despite environmental factors like weather, terrain, or limited access to sites. Additionally, technicians are responsible for properly recording, organizing, and analyzing collected data to support geologists and engineers, which requires attention to detail and familiarity with specialized software and equipment. Effective communication and teamwork are also essential, as technicians frequently collaborate with field crews and laboratory staff to ensure data integrity.

What are Geologic Technicians?

Geologic Technicians are professionals who assist geologists and other scientists in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting geological data. They often work in laboratories or in the field, helping with tasks such as sampling rocks, minerals, or soil, operating specialized equipment, and recording observations. Their work supports research in areas like mining, environmental protection, and oil and gas exploration. Geologic Technicians play a crucial role in ensuring data is accurate and research projects run smoothly. They may also help prepare reports and maintain databases of geological information.

Job description

About Us
Eden is pioneering sustainable natural resource recovery by using electricity to enhance subsurface permeability. Our Electrical Reservoir Stimulation technology offers a precise, water-efficient alternative to traditional hydraulic fracturing, reducing environmental risks while maximizing resource extraction.
Backed by leading public and private institutions, we have raised ~$24M, including $14M in dilutive capital from industry leaders such as Anglo American and Helmerich & Payne, along with climate-focused investors like the Grantham Foundation. Additionally, we have secured $10M in non-dilutive funding, primarily through four DOE ARPA-E grants that support our R&D in frontier industries.
Headquartered in Somerville, MA, and with an office in Houston, TX, Eden's team of 16 experts specializes in geophysics, geochemistry, high-voltage engineering, and subsurface tool design. We are actively demonstrating our next-generation permeability enhancement technology across diverse geologies worldwide, collaborating with industry leaders in geothermal energy, geologic hydrogen, carbon storage, and mining to redefine resource recovery for a carbon-neutral future.
Looking ahead, we are preparing for field tests, in cooperation with our supportive technical partners.
About the Job
We are seeking a hands-on and driven Electrical Engineering Technician to join our interdisciplinary team in building and deploying electrical reservoir stimulation equipment in both laboratory and field environments. This role will support the R&D team in the fabrication, assembly, and maintenance of electromechanical systems, including high-voltage devices and low-voltage control systems. The ideal candidate will be deeply involved in installation, troubleshooting, and operation of our systems, and will travel to work sites across the U.S. and abroad to ensure successful setup and field execution.
Your Impact
  • Assist in day-to-day assembly and repair of field and lab equipment
  • Provide hands-on support for equipment installation, setup, and operation during field deployments
  • Execute preventive maintenance on electro-mechanical assemblies and troubleshoot issues on-site and in the lab
  • Document repair and maintenance activities accurately and thoroughly
  • Identify inefficiencies and provide root-cause analysis and solutions to the design team
  • Ensure equipment is operating safely and reliably under rigorous field conditions

Requirements
About You
  • Electrical Engineering Technician Diploma or equivalent

  • Experience wiring machinery and control systems
  • Comfortable working independently in hands-on environments
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder

Preferred but Not Required
  • Experience working with high voltages (+10kV)
  • Familiarity with NFPA 79 / NFPA 70E and machine safety standards
  • Experience in fast-paced startup environments

Physical requirements
  • Willingness to travel 20-25% of the time
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs as required
