We have an opening in our Denver, Colorado office for a Senior Geochemist.
The Role:
The role of the senior geochemist will be an integral part of the team in developing and growing Knight Piesold's geochemical capabilities in the USA and internationally.
The responsibilities of this position will include waste characterization, geochemical modeling, environmental site investigations, geochemical research and development, laboratory analysis, critical review of mine planning/design documents, technical report development, client interaction, and supervision of geochemical projects. In addition, the position will be responsible for client development, managing geochemical projects, and mentoring of junior staff. This position will work with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and scientists to develop innovative and cost-efficient solutions for mining projects worldwide.
Responsibilities:
  • Design, execute, and interpret results of sampling and analysis programs at numerous mining sites.
  • On-site inspections to evaluate mining operations, collect relevant samples, gather site specific information, and assist site management to understand geochemical consequences of material handling methods.
  • Apply geochemical methods to tailings disposal and stabilization issues, process waste treatment and management, and mine site remediation.
  • Work on environmental project activities including site investigations, feasibility studies, and remedial action plans.
  • Develop a compliance strategy or strategies to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Analyzes, develops, and implements activities to ensure the safe and efficient operation of all remediation efforts.
  • Assesses the environmental risk of activities and advises team members of the environmental impacts.
  • Interprets data and observations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry guidelines and advises management accordingly.
  • Evaluates current and proposed codes, standards, regulations, and guidelines to determine the impact on current and future programs and activities.
  • Prepares technical documentation for management's use when dealing with regulatory agencies and other internal/external needs.
  • Maintains working knowledge of new technologies developed by the industry and government regulators.

An Ideal Candidate:
  • Experience in the mining industry
  • Experience with geochemical testing methodologies and expertise with geochemical modeling such as Geochemist's Workbench or PHREEQC are required.
  • Experience with water balances and GoldSIM software is preferred.
  • Master of Science degree (M.S.) in geochemistry from an accredited college/university with an emphasis on environmental engineering, water and/or energy is required.
  • 10+ years related experience is required.

Work Environment:
  • Work will be in both an office and field environment, including travel to various outdoor sites determined by project needs.
  • Adherence to safety standards including MSHA and OSHA is mandatory.

Compensation:
In accordance with Colorado state law, the following annual compensation range is applicable for the job and Colorado location associated with this requisition: $100,000-$130,000/year. Actual compensation may vary from posted hiring range based upon compensable factors, including experience, education, and skill level.
