Job description

Temple University's Lewis Katz School of Medicine is searching for a Laboratory Assistant!
Salary Range: $23.11/hr.

Position Summary:
The Laboratory Assistant supports a neuroscience research laboratory conducting specialized molecular, cellular, and behavioral studies using animal models. Responsibilities include assisting with routine laboratory experiments; preparing reagents and maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies; assisting with the handling, care, husbandry, genotyping and behavioral testing of laboratory animals in accordance with institutional guidelines; collecting, organizing, and recording research data; maintaining laboratory records and inventories; ensuring compliance with laboratory safety and animal care procedures, and supporting the overall operation ofthe laboratory.
Job Details:
* This is a grant funded position
Required Education and Experience:
* At least one year of directly related laboratory experience required.
Preferred Education and Experience:
* Bachelor's Degree in Biology or related field.
Required Skills and Abilities:
* Experience with mouse handling, injections and running behavioral studies
* Ability to run in vivo fiber photometry recording in mice during behavioral studies
* Ability to run social behavior and self-administration with mice
* Ability to work under close supervision
* Ability to work with mice in research setting
* Familiarity with basic lab techniques and terminology
* Ability to operate standard office equipment.
* Ability to operate laboratory equipment.
* Ability to handle sensitive equipment
Essential Duties:
* Perform behavioral studies with mice including behavioral testing, fiber photometry in vivo recordings, video acquisition, and behavioral scoring.
* Assist with laboratory animal husbandry, maintenance of genetic mouse lines, animal colony management, and genotyping.
* Perform animal perfusions, brain dissections, brain histology, tissue processing, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, and related experiments to support behavioral and surgical studies.
* Perform inventory of chemicals and laboratory supplies.
* Assist in ordering laboratory supplies as needed. Maintain and operate standard laboratory equipment.
* Assist with post-operative animal monitoring after stereotaxic surgery.
* Assist in the recording, compiling and organizing of data as required.
* Maintain, operate, and troubleshoot standard laboratory equipment.
* Maintain laboratory notebooks, electronic records, and experimental documentation.
* Clean and dry laboratory glassware and plastic ware, etc.
* Prepare standard solutions and reagents.
* Support research and administrative duties for lab functioning.
* Performs other duties as assigned
