What is the difference between Genetics vs Genetic Counseling?
| Aspect | Genetics | Genetic Counseling |
|---|---|---|
| Required Credentials | Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Genetics or related field | Master's in Genetic Counseling or related health field, certification often required |
| Work Environment | Research labs, biotech companies, healthcare settings | Hospitals, clinics, private practices |
| Industry Usage | Research, biotech, healthcare | Patient care, risk assessment, education |
Genetics involves studying genes, DNA, and heredity, often in research or laboratory settings. Genetic counseling focuses on helping patients understand genetic risks and testing results, working directly with individuals or families in clinical environments. While both roles require knowledge of genetics, their work settings and objectives differ significantly.
