Job description

The Cytotech processes various clinical specimens for cytology evaluation. Analyzes cytology specimens includes preparation, examination, and interpretations of findings for review by and under the general direction of a pathologist. Performs other duties assigned by department management according to policies and procedures and the mission of Woman's Hospital.

Requirements:ย 

  • Medical Technology degree with ASCP certification acceptable for cytogenetics and histology.
  • Cytotechnologist certification by the ASCP Board of Registry.
  • Licensure by the State of Louisiana for Cytology

ย Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain automated screening and imaging systems.ย 
  • Screens and evaluates cell samples for the presence of normal and abnormal cells and micro-organisms.
  • Makes diagnostic evaluations.
  • Mark suspicious findings for review by a pathologist.ย 
  • Reports microscopic findings in accepted histopathologic terminology.
  • Correlates and tabulates histological, cytologic and clinical information.
  • Ensure quality control and compliance with laboratory regulations.ย 
  • Document findings accurately in the laboratory information system.ย 
  • Participate in proficiency testing, quality assurance, and continuing education.ย 
  • Any other duties as assigned by Woman's Hospital.
