Job Description:

We are seeking a staff or lead-level Research Scientist, Data to architect and scale data engineering systems supporting model training for advanced multimodal foundation models. This role is central to research operations โ€” owning large-scale data pipelines and ML data curation to ensure foundation models are trained on the highest-quality, most diverse datasets across text, image, audio, and video modalities.

Responsibilities:

  • Architect and implement large-scale data pipelines supporting model training and research workflows across multimodal datasets
  • Partner with research and engineering teams to curate, clean, and manage datasets for pre-training and mid-training of multimodal models
  • Develop scalable strategies and tooling for data ingestion, labeling, filtering, augmentation, and storage
  • Ensure data quality, reliability, and compliance, including privacy and ethical governance throughout the data lifecycle
  • Optimize data processing, transformation, and delivery for large-scale distributed training pipelines
  • Prototype and productionize new methods for dataset creation, management, and continuous improvement
  • Integrate research-driven data advancements into production-ready systems

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience building and scaling ML data pipelines at staff or lead level, ideally in research or model training environments
  • Strong background in data engineering and ML data curation for LLMs, VLMs, or large-scale multimodal models
  • Expertise in distributed data systems (Spark, Hadoop, Ray, or equivalent) and ETL workflows at scale
  • Proven track record building production-grade data infrastructure for ML pipelines
  • Experience with data labeling, filtering, deduplication, quality assurance, and dataset management tooling
  • Strong programming skills in Python, SQL, and/or PySpark; familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
  • Knowledge of privacy, compliance, and ethical standards in data collection and management
  • Strong cross-functional communication and collaboration skills
