Job description

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Provide comprehensive, patient-centered care to patients with gynecologic malignancies, including ovarian, uterine/endometrial, cervical, vulvar, vaginal, fallopian tube, and other complex gynecologic cancers. 
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including history and physical examinations, review of diagnostic studies, and evaluation of treatment-related concerns. 
  • Develop, implement, and manage evidence-based treatment plans in collaboration with gynecologic oncologists and the multidisciplinary care team. 
  • Manage patients across the continuum of care, including preoperative evaluation, postoperative management, treatment follow-up, surveillance, and survivorship care. 
  • Provide clinical management of patients receiving systemic therapies, including assessment and management of treatment-related toxicities, symptoms, and complications. 
  • Coordinate care with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, radiation oncology, pathology, radiology, palliative care, and other members of the multidisciplinary oncology team to ensure seamless patient care. 
  • Evaluate and manage acute patient concerns, including treatment complications, symptom escalation, and urgent oncologic issues. 
  • Participate in perioperative care, including preoperative counseling, postoperative evaluation, wound assessment, and management of surgical recovery needs. 
  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, medications, symptom management, and available supportive resources. 
  • Provide counseling and support to address the physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs of patients navigating a cancer diagnosis and treatment journey. 
  • Serve as a patient advocate by promoting shared decision-making, timely access to care, and a positive patient experience. 
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, evidence-based practice efforts, clinical research activities, and educational opportunities that support Inova's mission of excellence in patient care. 
  • Maintain current knowledge of advances in gynecologic oncology care, emerging therapies, clinical guidelines, and best practices. 
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to promote safe, efficient, and high-quality care delivery across inpatient and outpatient settings.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Master's in advanced clinical Practice or graduate of a post master's certificate program for nurse practitioners, American Association of Colleges of Nursing of the National League for Nursing. For physician Assistants, graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program and certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) upon start
  • Licensure: Licensed Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner; If Nurse Practitioner: RN Compact License(depending on State of primary residence) AND a license (or eligibility for) as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia AND a "Practice Agreement" signed by sponsoring/ supervising physician(s), AND a written "Scope of Practice/Protocol" signed by the supervising physician, AND "Drug Enforcement Administration License" (if prescribing controlled substances)
  • Payer Credentialing: Ability to successfully complete the credentialing process by third-party payors and ability to enroll as a CMS Medicare/Medicaid payor
  • Medical Staff Credentialing: Successful completion of credentialing for Medical Staff membership and appropriate clinical privileges sufficient to perform all required services

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider in hematology/oncology. Prior GYN or women's health experience not necessary. 

  • Experience or special interest in clinical trials a plus; would provide all relevant required trainings.
