Job Summary

The Project Controls Associate is responsible for establishing, implementing, and managing compliance with accounting processes, policies, and best practices. Primary duties include reviewing and evaluating budgets, job costs, cost controls, cost reports, and other financial operating reports while presenting findings to management. This position supports the Operations team and works with other Accounting team members and personnel from all departments. This is a primarily remote position with a requirement to go into the client office ~ once every other week or so.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for implementing and monitoring compliance with accounting processes, procedures, and internal controls related to project accounting.
  • Responsible for recording and reconciliation of all general ledger transactions and related accounts.
  • Review, prepare, and document analysis of project estimates to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Responsible for project cost tracking, analysis, and reporting for decision support.
  • Perceive current construction industry best practices and implement relevant changes.
  • Coordinate and lead monthly financial and job status review meetings with clients and internal project Team.
  • Understand contract terms and conditions, knowledgeable of contractual requirements, and recognize discrepancies.
  • Work on special projects as requested; assist with external and internal audit preparation.
  • Interface with Project Managers and management on all aspects of construction accounting.

Qualifications

Minimum

  • Experience with Project Management, financial controls, experience in Accounting or Finance.
  • 2-3 years of experience.
  • Live in the greater Baltimore, MD area.
  • Ability to travel to client office in Baltimore, MD for biweekly or monthly project status meetings.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with team members and upper management.
  • Good presentation skills for educating internal clients on accounting principles.
  • Ability to think creatively, highly-driven, and self-motivated.
  • Experience working with generally accepted accounting principles and accounting software.
