Job Summary


The HVAC/Refrigeration and Facilities Technician will perform duties and tasks in the operations, maintenance and repair of HVAC and refrigeration, building equipment, systems, and infrastructure. Primary responsible for troubleshooting, operation and maintenance of building electrical/HVAC equipment including, lighting installation and repairs, wiring of production equipment and systems, package HVAC units, refrigeration equipment handlers, and building environmental controls. Additionally, the HVAC/Refrigeration and Facilities Technician will coordinate and perform repairs and preventive maintenance to the facility and utility systems such as Air Compressors, Steam Generators, Back-Up Generators, HVAC and Refrigeration Equipment, Security systems, Fire systems and DI water systems. The Facilities / Utilities Maintenance Team, is a sub team of the Maintenance Department. Perform maintenance actions on assigned facility work orders, existing equipment work orders, and preventive maintenance tasks in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures. Perform facility work orders that include, but are not limited to, painting, sheet rock repairs, light bulb and ballast replacements, electrical work, plumbing work, and facility grounds maintenance. Responsible for the overall upkeep and appearance of the Facility, Grounds, and Utility Systems


The HVAC/Refrigeration and Facilities Technician role requires strong leadership, communication, interpersonal and team building skills to support team objectives.


Key Accountabilities

  • Technical expertise in Electrical/HVAC/Refrigeration, and utility systems.
  • Strong background in diagnosing and repairing Electrical, HVAC, Refrigeration and Mechanical equipment.
  • Will work with contractors involved with repairs or projects to ensure they are meeting Werfen’s expectations with regard to quality of workmanship, safety, etc.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and repair of all facility and utility equipment (this includes, but is not limited to Air Compressors, Steam Generators, Back-Up Generators, HVAC and Refrigeration Equipment, Security systems, Fire systems and DI water systems) in a timely manner.
  • Complete daily work assignments from Facilities Manager.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and repair of all Utility/facility-related items including the general upkeep of the facility.
  • Ensure that the preventative maintenance program is performed in accordance with procedures, schedules and compliance regulations.
  • Perform work in accordance to established maintenance departmental SOP’s/PM Task Lists.
  • Ensure that documentation for maintenance actions taken is in compliance with departmental standard operating procedures.
  • Communicate with department managers, supervisors and operators with regards to Facility / Utilities maintenance actions.
  • Ensure compliance of FDA, ISO, OSHA, and GMP regulations and standards in regards to maintenance actions.
  • Perform work in accordance with Immucor and OHSA safety procedures.
  • Responsible for handling and/or resolving housekeeping issues with outsorced janitorial company.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting utilities equipment and facility issues as well as making recommendations for improvement.
  • Responsible for assisting in accuracy of spare parts inventory for facility and utility equipment and systems.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Be the primary point of contact for any DI water system issues and provide oversight to the SCADA monitoring system in order to maintain the water system within parameters and in compliance.
  • Train Utilities/Facility Maintenance Technicians on the repair and preventive maintenance activities for facility and utility systems
  • Ability to perform and train others to troubleshoot facility and utility systems problems to minimize downtime and improve efficiency.
  • Assist with, perform revisions to standard operating procedures, Forms and work instructions when necessary.
  • Provide support to the project team to implement any Facility / Utility project within the facility.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Networking/Key relationships

Works closely with various departments, inclduing production (manufacturing), quality control, quality assurance, customer service, shipping, sales and marketing.


Minimum Knowledge & Experience required for the position:

  • Associates Degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school and three years related experience and/or training
  • EPA, HVAC Certification
  • Minimum of three years of hands-on HVAC/Refrigeration experience with strong troubleshooting and repair skills in commercial/industrial systems
  • Experience working in GMP environments
  • Must be able to work overtime and weekends if needed to meet customer demands.
  • Must be able to work closely and communicate with other departments

Management has the discretion of substituting relevant work experience for a degree and/or making exceptions to the years of experience requirement.

Skills & Capabilities:

Proven experience in the maintenance and repair of equipment which includes Air Compressors, Steam Generators, Back-Up Generators, HVAC and Refrigeration Equipment, and DI water systems is required. Ability to read and interpret blue prints and schematics.

Strong background in troubleshooting various electrical, refrigeration and HVAC systems.
