Job Description

Join the Legal Tech Revolution at Litera.

Hybrid Role

This position is based in Denver, CO. Candidates should reside within reasonable commuting distance, as this role requires onโ€‘site presence at least three days per week.

The Opportunity

The Generative AI Innovation Team is transforming how Literaโ€”and its clientsโ€”leverage data for competitive advantage. As a Senior AI Engineer, you will play a critical role in shaping Literaโ€™s GenAI strategy, architecture, and technical standards across both customerโ€‘facing products and internal platforms. You will serve as a technical leader and subjectโ€‘matter expert, partnering closely with engineering, product, security, and business teams. You will guide the design, development, and responsible adoption of Generative AI solutions, ensuring scalability, security, and longโ€‘term value. This is a highโ€‘impact opportunity to drive innovation at scale within a marketโ€‘leading organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and development of enterpriseโ€‘grade GenAI solutions, owning architecture decisions, technical patterns, and platform standards.
  • Act as technical authority on LLMs, agentic systems, and emerging AI technologies, guiding adoption decisions and technical direction across engineering.
  • Evaluate, prototype, and document emerging tools, platforms, and techniques, recommending strategic investments aligned with Litera's roadmap.
  • Own technical estimates, solution feasibility assessments, and delivery accountability for complex, crossโ€‘functional initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain GenAI governance standards, including safety, security, and responsible use guidelines applicable to production deployments.
  • Define and own LLM observability and evaluation standardsโ€”including tracing, quality metrics, and monitoring for production AI systems.
  • Champion software engineering best practices including secure coding, design patterns, and performance optimization.
  • Contribute highโ€‘quality, scalable, and secure code with a strong focus on maintainability and reliability.
Required Experience
  • 6+ years of professional software development experience, with at least 2 years focused on production GenAI systems and applications.
  • Deep, handsโ€‘on experience with Large Language Modelsโ€”including context engineering, prompt design, structured outputs, and LLM evaluation.
  • Experience with LLM observability and evaluation tooling (e.g., LangSmith, RAGAS, Arize, PromptFlow) and the ability to define and track GenAI quality metrics in production.
  • Proficiency in Python, with working experience in LangGraph and/or LangChain.
  • Familiarity with agentโ€‘based and multiโ€‘agent orchestration architectures.
  • Experience with enterprise SaaS RESTful APIs and cloudโ€‘based backend development.
  • Comfortable with relational data stores (PostgreSQL preferred; Azure SQL or SQL Server also acceptable).
  • Solid background in testing practicesโ€”including unit, integration, and evaluationโ€‘layer testing for AI systems (e.g., pytest).
Preferred Skills
  • Handsโ€‘on experience building and shipping agentic workflows using LangGraph, Semantic Kernel, or comparable orchestration frameworks.
  • Experience with LLM fineโ€‘tuning or working knowledge of PyTorch, TensorFlow, or scikitโ€‘learn at the application level.
  • Strong foundation in RAG architectures, embeddings, vector databases, and semantic similarity.
  • Experience evaluating or operationalizing AIโ€‘assisted development tooling (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor) within engineering teams.
  • Strong familiarity with software architecture principles, security best practices (OWASP Top 10), and SOLID design.
Education & Working Style
  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong systems thinking, technical judgment, and problemโ€‘solving ability.
  • Comfortable operating autonomously while influencing across teams.
  • Proven ability to manage complexity, prioritize effectively, and deliver at scale.
Benefits
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Competitive healthcare, retirement plans, generous PTO, and workโ€“life balance to support your wellโ€‘being and future.
  • Career Growth: Clear technical and leadership career paths, continuous learning, and opportunities to expand your influence as AI continues to evolve.
