Job description

USAP Washington, the largest physician-owned private practice anesthesia group in the Northwest, is seeking a Chief of Obstetric Anesthesiology. This premier leadership opportunity involves overseeing anesthesia services at one of the largest labor and delivery units in the Pacific Northwest, with approximately 8,000 deliveries annually. The role combines high-volume clinical excellence with significant influence on quality, safety, and system-level improvement within a dynamic obstetric environment.

  • Provides anesthesia services to Swedish Medical Center and prominent outpatient surgery centers in the greater Seattle area
  • Practice is highly varied, featuring regional, thoracic, neuro, vascular, general, peds, and OB anesthesia
  • Lead anesthesia services within the largest labor and delivery unit in the Pacific Northwest, with approximately 8,000 deliveries annually
  • Swedish is a quaternary referral center offering the full spectrum of maternal care
  • Supported by a robust Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) department, a high-volume Placenta Accreta Spectrum service, an established OB/Gyn residency program, and rotating anesthesia residents from the University of Washington and Virginia Mason Medical Center

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic, clinical, and administrative leadership for obstetric anesthesia services across a high-acuity, high-throughput practice
  • Partner closely with obstetric and hospital leadership to advance safety, quality, and operational excellence
  • Support education and team development within the L&D environment
  • Promote best practices for high-risk obstetrics, including complex placental pathologies
  • Participate in and help lead institutional quality initiatives, including the OBQI Committee, Perinatal Quality Committee, and Surgical Quality Council
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and standards
  • Engage in QVR and RCA processes to drive continuous improvement
  • Provide operational and administrative oversight for obstetric anesthesia and collaborate with OB leadership and hospital administrators on service line goals, staffing, and performance

Compensation

  • Annual estimated W-2 salary or 1099 payment: $500,000 - $650,000
  • Employment Status: W-2 (Employee) or 1099 (Independent Contractor)

Requirements

  • MD/DO (or equivalent) with board certification/board eligibility in Anesthesiology
  • Completion of an Obstetric Anesthesiology fellowship
  • Demonstrated leadership ability in clinical operations, quality, or program development
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative, multidisciplinary leadership style
  • Commitment to education and working with trainees in a teaching environment
