Slocan Valley Co-op is located in the West Kootenay region of south-east British Columbia, providing goods and services via our Grocery Convenience and Gas Bar departments in Slocan Park, Nelson, Castlegar, Glenmerry, our Bulk Petroleum & Lubricants department in Castlegar, and our hospitality services at The Dam Restaurant & Bar for the benefit of our member-owners and communities where we operate. What you'll do:

Reporting to the General Manager, this position is responsible for managing, overseeing, and leading the strategy and overall day-to-day operations of the Bulk Petroleum department, including lubricant sales and cardlock operations.

  • Maintain service standards by positively leading, coaching and motivating the Petroleum Team Members.

  • Apply a broad-based level of operational knowledge, commodity direction and managerial skills to achieve established objectives in terms of brand, service levels, quality, and timeliness of delivery.

  • Oversee the completion and follow through of all safety and environmental regulations, policies, and procedures and ensure standards are achieved.

  • Prepare, administer, and achieve budgeted goals as it relates to the pricing, sales, margins, expenses, and inventory of the commodity.

  • Develop, review, and obtain approval of annual operating budgets to ensure adherence and appropriate utilization of funds.

  • Build strong customer relationships through an effective strategic marketing and networking strategy including an effective customer contact program.

  • Working effectively with the management team by demonstrating positive day-to-day behaviours and actions that align with, and strengthen Slocan Valley's Co-operative's vision, mission, values, brand and focus on safety

Who you'll work with:

The Team: You will work closely with the Petroleum Team and will oversee a Senior Petroleum Driver and two driver salesmen as direct reports. This team strives to cultivate a culture of collaboration and exceptional customer service. 

The Collaborators: You will work closely with other functions in our Administration Department and collaborate across the organization with teams such as the Department Managers, along with support from the Energy team at Federated Co-operatives Limited.

The Customers: You will demonstrate customer focus while supporting community engagement.

The Community: The West Kootenays is an area of community growth located in southeastern British Columbia. Here you'll find nature, beauty, warmth, great people, and wonderful services. All four seasons offer spectacular year-round recreation. Spending time outside is one of the top things to do throughout the region, from hitting the slopes in the morning to hiking, kayaking and mountain biking in the afternoon. 

Who you are:

You are looking for a career in Petroleum Management and:

  • You have experience in developing and maintaining positive relationships with external and internal customers on complex issues and transactions.

  • You have experience and proven leadership in positively coaching and providing constructive feedback to other team members with proven skills for effective communication and problem solving.

  • You have strong technical knowledge with experience operating and troubleshooting technology, tools, and software (Microsoft Office, Excel, etc.) related to retail sales and management.

  • You are highly organized, honest, and trustworthy, are results-oriented and strive to be the best in what you do.

  • You believe in building relationships and collaborating to deliver solutions that matter most, and you recognize the value that different perspectives bring to meet shared objectives.

  • You have minimum 5 - 8 years of experience in a retail environment with the successful candidate having extensive management, petroleum, lubricant, and equipment experience.

  • You have the ability to regularly and independently lift up to 50 pounds. 

  • You have a clean driver's abstract and no criminal record.

  • Possess a valid Class 3 Driver's License (Class 1 with airbrake endorsement is an asset).

What we offer:

  • The full-time, annual salary range for the position is $68,260 to $102,385 depending upon qualifications.

  • A short-term incentive plan, comprehensive benefits package, and employer-contributed pension.
